admin Site Manager Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 This brawl looked different (connected punch) because it was a standing sucker punch (Bautista really is stupid for not seeing it come). Usually fights that happen when a hitter charges the mound...and little punches land because baseball players are not good at punching a moving target I'm kinda on the fence about the punch. It could be considered a sucker punch, but the same time, that's how most fights start. In real life, say you were walking and some guy tripped you, you get up, tell him he's a f***ing idiot, he says the same to you. He comes up and pushes you. You should pretty much be ready for a fist fight at that point. If there was no push or anyting to get it going I'd say it was really dirty, but the slide, the talking, the push, you should be ready to go, even if it is baseball.

It may not have been expected, but it's not really a sucker punch. Not like he waited for him to turn his back and blindside him.
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 It might endear him to Texass fans, but someone like him should be keeping his nose as clean as possible. Yeah, but are you really not going to do it if your manager tells you to? If it came from Banister, then he put Bush in a pretty bad position. Though honestly I'd hope it did come from Banister, because I don't think Bush should have taken it upon himself to get in the middle of something that really didn't concern him at all.
Statman Verified Member Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 If this was Machado sliding in to 2nd, and Tulo punched him, we'd be loving it and saying Machado had it coming. Yup!
Statman Verified Member Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 This brawl brings to mind once again how incredible Josh Donaldson is. Guy is fearless. He must strut around the clubhouse 7" soft.

Yeah, I meant either way. Whether it was Bush's decision or Banister, not the best guy to do that.

The play is to call bluff but unfortunately for Bautista, Odor was holding pocket rockets
BigRed Verified Member Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Intentionally drilling a guy with a 98 mph weapon shouldn't be considered a baseball play either. I never said it was, but lets not pretend like it hasn't been an unwritten rule in baseball that you're not supposed to pimp homeruns / show pitchers up, and if you do you might get thrown at. I get in that moment, easily the best moment in 20+ years of Blue Jays baseball we feel it was appropriate to, but lets not pretend the Rangers weren't going to plunk him for it. The problem I have is Odor didn't do anything to Bautista. He wasn't on the mound throwing at him. Odor didn't show Bautista up, but because Bautista is pissed off he just goes at the nearest guy. Bautista gets schooled, and so Chavez feels like he needs to do something, so he throws at fatass Prince in his thigh. It was a pointless "retaliation" because you're not going to hurt Prince there, but at the same time what did Prince do in all this to deserve to be thrown at? Play for the Rangers? Retaliation in baseball is so stupid, because 90% of the time a guy who did nothing is getting plunked, especially in the AL with the DH rule. Bautista pimped a HR and got beaned, that should have been the end of it.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 It's really f***ed up, though. Bautista being vilified for a bat flip, Odor being glorified for physical violence. Lol
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 You think Jesse Chavez should get a higher suspension than Odor in this situation? Yes. Both are assaults, but one is assault with a weapon. Bush and Chavez should be getting the biggest suspensions, but that isnt the way it works obviously.
Statman Verified Member Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 It's really f***ed up, though. Bautista being vilified for a bat flip, Odor being glorified for physical violence. Lol It's more than the bat flip though. Orioles fans and others around the league hate him for other reasons that isn't about the bat flip...constant complaining of the strike zone, posturing, showing up umps, perceived selfishness ...it can wear on you if you are not blinded by the colors of your own team....

I get in that moment, easily the best moment in 20+ years of Blue Jays baseball we feel it was appropriate to, but lets not pretend the Rangers weren't going to plunk him for it. You're really not being consistent, though. "I don't condone drilling a guy with a fastball but that's also just a thing that's done in baseball, so accept it and move on." So f***ing what if that's how it's been done? Hard slides into second are also "how it's been done" but you rightfully aren't ok with them still happening. Retaliation in baseball is so stupid, because 90% of the time a guy who did nothing is getting plunked, especially in the AL with the DH rule. No, retaliation is stupid because it's childish and dangerous. "My feelings are hurt so I'll hit you with a fastball" is not normal behaviour. You can say "well that's baseball" but that still doesn't make it right. Bautista pimped a HR and got beaned, that should have been the end of it. Nah, the end of it should have been the bat flip. Don't like it, get him out next time.

I don't consider myself blinded, I yell at my tv every time he whines about the strike zone telling him to shut up and sit down. But yes what happened today was 100% about that bat flip. Rangers are big baby sore losers. It was okay when they pimped everything the entire series, though.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 It's about the bat flip. It's not about Bautista being a jerk. It's about the Rangers blowing the series and channeling their frustration on the most convenient scapegoat. It's ********.

Bautista isn't the first player to pimp a homerun. You never see teams make this big a deal out of it. It has everything to do with the fact that they blew the series. It's easier to be mad at Jose than at themselves. It's a joke.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 If Bannister ordered him to do it not only is he a coward but he is f***in stupid. Giving away a free baserunner in a 1 run game is incredibly dumb.
