He always looks off balance, even when he gets a hit he either looks like he's falling over the plate or just flailing his bat at the ball. With his mechanics/approach, it's hard to see him rebounding to anything close to the hitter he used to be. A lot of the time Pillar looks lost at the plate too but at least he chips in with a few hits to the opposite field. That and he isn't paid like a franchise player, so I don't expect a whole lot from Pilllar at the plate.

So...is it time for a complete overhaul for Tulo at the plate? What gives?

Haha I PVR'd the game so I hadn't seen the homer yet, which did look pretty sweet. But it's one swing. He has a LONG way to go.

I think Tulowitzki will come around. I am more worried about Russell Martin.

PVR'ing the game is great. I can watch baseball, Stanley Cup playoff game and a movie all within a 3 hour period.

Ya Martin looks awful but let's hope that this neck issue have something to do with it. I've tweaked my neck before and could barely turn my head for a couple days and it took at least a few weeks to fully heal.

See Kevin Pillar.

Do you even know who Tulo is? He changes his swing as often as Herpderp posts dumb s***.

I wouldn't say it's that often.

That would be ok if he wasn't hitting .172 with a .648 OPS

The fact that his OPS is that high while batting .172 is pretty sweet

Tulo has a 13.6% BB rate. 27.2% K rate and a .184 ISO after today. He's got a .182 BABIP which is completely unsustainable especially when you consider he's only hit 1 popup all year. With his defense thats like a 4 Win player with an average BABIP over the course of the season.

I don't get all this hate for Tulo. I mean Edwin has been worse at the plate this year and doesn't provide any defensive value.

Wut?

Edwin is one of the best hitters in baseball last 4 or 5 years. Huge declive year 0 to 1? - I don't think so bro.

His last 2 games he hit 3 balls right to the wall, including two to center field, not to mention his homer. He could have had 4 homers in 2 games with the right outdoor conditions, or hitting it to slightly different parts of the field. Very nice to see him come through with a homer, he deserved one.

I'm going to stick up for BB. He just say Edwin has been worse at the plate this year and provide nothing defensively. He's right. Everyone is all over Tulo offensively when Edwin has been just as bad. Both have excellent track records and I think both will turn it around - although both have shown signs of decline over the past couple of years. Edwin's contact rates are on a steady decline (contact % down, O-contact % down, SwStr% up).

Perhaps it was bad timing making this thread, as Tulo just put his best swing on a ball all year, but that doesn't change the fact that through 66 games with the Jays, Tulo has hit .218 while striking out in 28% of his ABs. In 2 more weeks he'll have played half a season with the Jays. That's not just a "slump" and definitely cause for concern.

Big decline the last 3 years on his contact rate though. Whiff rate at 12% this year and the bat speed looks slower. It looks like he's opened his stance a bit to try and be able to hit the inside fastball that he's struggled against so hopefully the adjustment can help.

It's completely fine to have a 28% K-rate when it's accompanied with a 14% BB-rate.

Here's a theory. Tulo was a great hitter at Coors Field, particularily in his prime years. Yeah, the stats show he was good away from Coors as well... but perhaps part of it is a confidence factor... demolishing balls at Coors Field probably gave him more confidence going into the away parks. Now he doesn't have have Coors Field to rub his balls anymore and the results have been less than stellar.

If you're going to state some numbers, atleast use the right ones instead of pulling numbers out of your ass.

And he K'd at 21.3% last year(with us) and is at 27.2% this year. Just a guess, but I'm going to assume those don't equal out to 28% as a Bluejay.

Come round to where he was last year? Hopefully not.

As for Martin,a lost cause I fear.:(
