He was always an MLB starter. Pitching like a 2-3-win starter earlier, and and ace now. Talk of sending him down to AAA was very silly.

Come on dude, making rash decisions after like 2 games is always a rational course of action.

Some might say as silly as suggesting that Martin is finished as a major league average bat, and that his contract is horrible.

I would sell that contract ASAP this offseason if the opportunity presented itself. I hate committing 20+M a year to guys in their mid-30s. I'm comfortable missing the odd Beltre and Ortiz if it means I never get saddled with a Choo/Howard/Fielder/Teixeira/Sabathia/Sandoval/Pujols/Ethier/Crawford/ etc...

I keep him because its so tough finding a good C. With his defense and experience he's still one of the better Catchers in the league even if the bat slows down a little bit.

Where exactly are we going to find a better catcher than Martin?

I think he's owed about 15-20M more than he'd get on the open market over the next 3 years. You don't need to put the money towards a better catcher than Martin. I think there are better ways to spend 60M than on the 34-36 seasons for a catcher that you'd expect to be about league average over that time. It's, what, a third of the way to a Donaldson extension?

Yeah... 7.5 WAR since acquired, I think he has and will be valued correctly.

50 million in value so far, and I think I'm lite. Probable near 54 to 58 million, in less than 2 years.

And then have who at C? Martin is top 5 in the league and will only have a 3 year term. He should also clear that $60M value mark.

BTDumn.

We could always go back to Navarro.

2014: 6.6 WAR

2015: 4.7 WAR

2016: 4.1 WAR (projected to finish with)

Consistently 1.2+ WAR with the framing alone. Pretty solid floor.

Martin is a winner plain and simple

this is his eleventh year in the majors, he will be going to the playoffs the ninth time. This is with 4 different teams, always being the starting catcher.

The Martin led Dodgers missed the playoffs twice, once in 2010 which was an injury filled season for him, and once in 2007

Other than that Martin has always gone to the post season.

I'm ready to label Stroman as the stupidest player in the major leagues. He constantly gets into great counts and inexplicably throws hittable pitches over the plate. I've honestly never seen anything like it. Sure, guys make mistake pitches over the plate, but he does it on purpose.

If Pete Walker and Russ Martin can't get through to him, maybe it's time to shake things up somehow. Maybe get a talk from the F.O. and put him with Navarro or something. He can't continue to be as downright stupid as he was with the pitches to Dickerson and Ramirez. It's not acceptable.

It's definitely Stroman. I wouldn't call him stupid though, just incredibly stubborn. He seems to always shake off followed by getting punished for it. He just doesn't seem to learn from mistakes for some reason?

3.33 xFIP in the AL East.

Arguably the best SP on the team.

Well that went right over your head.

Today I was surprised he only got tagged for 3 runs, however there are at least 2 or 3 starts where he looked like he was K'ing a lot of guys but ended up formfitting lots of runs and yielding a huge BABIP. Looking at his numbers right now I also see a pretty low LOB%, in the top 30 starters across both leagues only he, Wainwright (who has really similar numbers this year) and Gray have LOB% below 70%. Also out of all the pitchers on that same list he has the highest HR/FB rate out of everyone by a good margin at 18%.

Also I just looked at him vs. Sanchez, and wow. In very similar innings pitched coming into this game (178 Stroman vs. 173 Sanchez) Stroman has a higher K/9 and a lower BB/9. Also generates 5% more groundballs. For some reason, with my eye test I'd say Stroman is getting outpitched by Sanchez, but in very similar innings pitched coming into this game, he has struck out 11 more batters and walked 13 less than Sanchez. Was not expecting to see this at all, he's pitched quietly well down the stretch while the last 3 sanchez starts haven't been really that great

Stro's nitemare 18.4% HR/FB season continues. An xFIP of 3.33.

Gives up a f***ing 0-2 dinger to recently released Ramirez.

If he would have let Russ call his pitch, there is no HR and we might win. He needs to shut the f*** up and do what his catcher says. Players with as little baseball sense as Stroman don't deserve to call their own pitches.

I was telling my room mate seconds before the 0-2 HR - "Stroman is such an idiot he always goes with his sinker 0-2 cuz hes looking for a grounder and thinks it will surprise them and they will roll over but everyone always crushes it. He has lights out offspeed stuff but won't go for the K. Yup, look hes shaking off Martin... Martin wont put down the fastball... he wants him to come to the mound..."
