Everybody meow, f*** Wilner, Buck, Tabby, Blair, McCowen, Madani, Davis, Howarth, Barker, Zaun, Cambell, Grange, Mae (the list probably goes on).........where all this hate originates from I don't get, maybe its a product of over-exposing yourselves to it.

Blair and Barker are paid to host a show about baseball - and ONLY baseball. Last September they did a segment on Sanchez and the pitches he throws and how they rank each pitch. Barker said: 1. Fastball 2. Cutter 3. Curveball 4. Slider Blair said: 1. Fastball 2. Sinker 3. Slider 4. Breaking Ball Neither guys correctly named the 4 pitches that Sanchez throws, nor did the 2 twits even name the same 4 pitches when ranking them. I don't get how you don't get how pathetic that is. I expect competency, but perhaps my expectations are too high. I don't think it would kill them to study the sport, know their s*** and use facts every once in awhile when talking about baseball. I don't know why that's too much to ask. Like seriously, in the example above, it would take 30 seconds to pull up Sanchez's fangraph page, acknowledge the 4 pitches he actually throws, see which are most effective and then throw in their 2 cents based on their visual observations.

Lol I love how Blair says Slider, then Breaking Ball. Too bad he didn't rank 2-seam and Fastball.

I dont dispute their level of competency, there are tons of idiots everywhere. I just don't get the incessant bitching and whining about them.

I just don't get the incessant bitching and whining about them. Because I think it can and should be better and I don't accept complacency. There's also a level of "fun" in quoting stupid things they say and then laughing at how stupid they are. Well the key is to not listen to them. That's true - but it's sad. I love listening to people debate and talk about baseball (hence why I'm here). It's discouraging that there's few, if any relevant conversations about baseball had on the air/TV.

One has to remember Blair is a lifetime reporter who looks like he is going to fall over of a heart attack any second, and Barker tries desperately to relate his 320 lifetime MLB PAs to whats happening currently with the Jays. To put that in perspective Cola has had more. That's not to say that ex-players who didn't have MLB success cant be very solid baseball minds(many are), but Barker has a credibility and content issue. "It is what it is" as he always says.

Shi Davidi is ok. I find he doesn't hold strong opinions where his knowledge is on shaky ground. Lott is ok for the same reason. Wilner is an idiot, Jays apologist, judgmental, SJWy, mean spirited, unfunny prick Buck is a s***** PxP guy and he needs to be paired with someone who isn't stupid Tabler is a monumentally stupid cliche machine who's only purpose seems to be to make Buck Martinez also look really dumb when they constantly agree with each other McCown just doesn't know a lot about anything, and likely is a "controversial" blustering idiot simply because it sells. Madani knows absolutely nothing about baseball, cringy interviews to the max Davis...I don't even think I need to write anything Howarth is super old, seemingly bitter and has had the game pass him by. I personally don't think he has a great voice for the booth but lots of people disagree, so...if he sticks to his calls, he's just fine. Starting fights with players and stuff is not helpful. Barker is like Mitch Williams on Sportsnet Zaun is trying too hard to be baseball Don Cherry and it's painful. His views on roster management and anything really beyond on field technique is laughably wrong. Campbell I don't really mind at all. Grange idk Hazel is not really worthy of hate. Only thing that bothers me is that I'm sure shes only there as a pretty face and she's a bit old for that now imo. Her interviews are really bad but that applies to pretty much every sideline reporter. I don't understand why they don't involve Evanka more. She's really hot and seems intelligent.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I remember when Campbell was almost universally hated in Blue Jay fan circles. This was back when he was the TV play by play. I like the guy but he's such an awkward dork that it makes for painful listening a little too often. I don't dislike him at all, but there's a time and a place and play by play is unfortunately not it. Evanka is hilarious and I think she has pretty good comedic timing in the rare time I stick around to watch post-game stuff. I think she'd be good on her feet in any broadcast situation. I actually don't mind Zaun at all. Not really sure how great he is at analyzing stats but I always like his thoughts on the down and dirty of being a MLB player. Same reason I liked Dirk Hayhurst, though Hayhurst was a lot less blustery and seemed to love the advanced numbers. Shi is great and I enjoy his reporting. I tend not to read his opinion pieces but I also don't think he writes many. He's strictly The News and I like that. I've never really given Ben Nicholson-Smith a fair shot. Maybe I should. I follow him on Twitter after all. TBH I've never understood the Barry Davis hate at all. I can't see how he's any worse than other personalities. I tend to tune out the sideline human interest stories, but I still think Hazel is way, way worse at the job than Barry. Hazel always seems to be as if it's her first month on the job. There's just the awkwardness about her that makes her seem like she's still not familiar with the game and the terminology.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I remember one time the Twins were in town and Campbell made some torturous pun about Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer. Called them "Mauerneau" or something. I'll never forget. It's when I realized they needed a new voice of the team, and I think his producers probably thought the same thing.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 SN actually has quite a few good reporters/personalities. I think Zwelding is one of the best for his in-depth articles and BNS is pretty good too. Davidi, Brunt, Sidall, Shulman and Keri are all really good at what they do IMO. Even Campbell and Zaun are decent for their roles in the broadcast.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Grange is solid. Grange is out of his depth when he talks baseball. It's really better if he doesn't.
