Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Zaun is tearing Thole a new anus. He's right to do it.
jimmygibbssr Verified Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I refuse to believe that Thole is better at catching the knuckle ball than any other catcher in the minors could be.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 That play to gun down Reimold feels like it happened 3 months ago. Thole f***in blows man, how hard is to find some defense+ catcher with no bat that can catch a knuckler. #KallKratz
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted April 21, 2016 Author Posted April 21, 2016 Who replaces Thole? Barry Davis can't be any worse. Arencibia??
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Won't happen as long as Dickey is here, but yeah, he's not an MLB player. I don't buy the narrative that none of the many serviceable backup catchers available every offseason are capable of catching a knuckleball.
Hal Johnson Verified Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Barry Davis can't be any worse. Gibbons could probably do it fine.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Who replaces Thole? Someone who can catch a sinking fastball Do you know how catch a sinker?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Who replaces Thole? A piece of plywood with a strike zone painted on it in Thole's blood?
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Jesus f***ing Christ, he is bad. Real bad.
Hal Johnson Verified Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 A piece of plywood with a strike zone painted on it in Thole's blood? One of these would both catch, and throw the ball back to the pitcher. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41uQ%2B1gG72L._SY300_.jpg

I don't buy the narrative that none of the many serviceable backup catchers available every offseason are capable of catching a knuckleball. What's worse is that it's rarely even discussed as an option. Has there ever been a report about backups all trying to get in edgewise by demonstrating knuckleball aptitude? It's basically assumed to be Thole every year, except for the Martin-Navarro logjam last year. And even then, there was a huge portion of time when the team carried all friggin' three, which says volumes. This doesn't really seem to me like a mid-season change. It should have been considered when building depth, and even Shatkins glossed over it.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 A reactionary thread with merit. Which player will call out Thole to ensure he doesn't end the game with a passed ball?
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 During the entire game I was thinking to myself "anytime now that ass-clown is going to let a ball past him and it is going to cost us the game".....but then Dickey left the game and I thought the coast was clear....silly me.
Praxis Verified Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Why is Colabello still a Blue Jay? Why was Thole not benched after Dickey finished pitching or at least when the game was clearly coming down to the wire? Why wasn't Osuna bought in when Biagini was obviously in trouble? Answers on a postcard/twitter to #Gibbonsisgreat.

Answers on a postcard/twitter to #Gibbonsisgreat. Biagini wasn't in trouble. A flare double. A dribbler that would have ended the inning squirts by him. That was a great pitch inside. He pitched around MM (smart) and useless Thole ended it.
