Current options at AAA are Jimenez and Tony Sanchez. Jimenez has a Thole level bat minus the experience catching Dickey so there's not much appeal there. Sanchez is probably a better hitter but he looked horrible defensively in spring training. Montero was a terrible catcher who could not stick there. I don't really see a viable plan B.

It's quite depressing when you actually look into it. My preference internally would be Jimenez and f*** the Dickey personal catcher BS. When was the last time Martin caught him? I admit I didn't pay very close attention to spring training. Ideally the Jays should look at any possible external options.

What about Tony Sanchez? He didn't injure a pitcher in Spring Training...that must make him the next man up right? Former 3rd overall pick. Give him a leg kick and bam. Backup catcher.

2012 - 127

2013 - 119

2014 - 116

2015 - 109

His WAR spiked in 2015 due to statistical improvements in his defense.

Tony Batista hit 32 hrs with 110 rbis in 2004 and he was an effit turrrrible hitter. Unless I fell into my hot tube time machine last night it's not 2001 - we don't (or shouldn't) judge players primarily based on HRs & RBIs.

The whole point here was that Jones had declined to the point where he was no longer a real threat and that Biagini was easily going to get him out until Thole (a universally accepted terrible catcher) screwed up. That is patently untrue. Jones is still a very good major league hitter whose offensive numbers only went into rapid decline in 2015:

2012: 22.4

2013: 21.1

2014: 17.6

2015: 6.4

2016 (projected): 6.7

There was no reason in a close divisional game not to pinch hit for Thole and have Martin catch at the end of the game and there was no good reason not to bring in Osuna when 1 out was needed and there were runners at 2nd and 3rd and then the bases were loaded with a proven hitter at the plate.

These were poor managerial decisions. Picking fly s*** out of pepper isn't going to change that.

While we're all popping a vein about Thole, let's just remind ourselves about how Texas literally threw away game 5 last year. Write this off as the baseball gods paying the Jays back a bit for that. But that doesn't excuse Thole's continued use of a perfectly good MLB roster spot, three years and counting.

I think the team has written off Jimenez at this point. He's been DFA'd and after he cleared, the team showed no interest in playing him. He's only gotten into 2 games (Sanchez has gotteen into 7 and Quintero into 5). I don't think there's anything there except whispers of good defense.

Interesting on Jimenez. Just fizzled. I remember arguing with Gibbers on this board or the old one about him. He was very high on him and d'Arnaud, who finally put up a 2 WAR season at 26.

If Chris Coglan was at the plate last night instead of Jones - would you have been screaming to get Osuna into the game? What if it was Justin Smoak, Yunel Escobar, Stephen Vogt, Odubel Herrera, Yangervis Solarte or Gerardo Parra???

Jones is not an elite hitter - don't be fooled by name value. We've been over the other points numerous times - you're like trying to reason with a 2 year old. You've already made up your mind.

Having reread one of your posts I am now willing to reach complete agreement because you referenced the hot tub time machine. Seriously that movie was stupid but incredibly funny in places.

Oh my bad. I thought he was still a FA

Padres signed him to a MiLB deal and then dealt him to Houston for Straily (who is now starting for Cincinatti).
