Jays benefited from a ton of calls in the first few innings. I'd be surprised if the Os had the advantage in calls during this game but because it was a big AB it looks worse in your mind.

Even though the ump was probably calling time on those balks, how did not a single Jay personnel think to question it? These guys try to lawyer a call on any slide into second but let two obvious non-pitches get away?

Apparently if the batter steps out of the batters box you can't call a balk. Umpire didn't do anything wrong since JB stepped out.

Any chance the ump just yelled time but didn't signal it?...so everyone at ground level knew time was was called

There's a chance yeah but even if he didn't he can't call a balk in that situation.

I found that rule too. It's a good rule. Without it, batters could just get a free run in the bottom of the 9th of a tie game with a runner on 3rd or something.

Well good. I they had called a balk because JB basically baited the pitcher into it that would just be bad for baseball.

Pretty awful. I blame Stro and Martin. Stro's stuff is far too nasty to be relying on BABIP all the time.

 

He'll adjust. The Orioles are a good - and hot - hitting team.

 

They're also a team full of high career strikeout players.

It's actually a bit easier to walk when you never touch a pitch. Putting balls in play cuts off plate appearances before a K or BB conclusion is possible!
