I'm pretty sure most of this forum is teenagers who have never worked at a job. No adult thinks that a group of 24 men need to be called out by their peer, and will then start performing better at work.

There's nothing fundamentally wrong here - it comes down to disappointing play from four top players, and a slow start from the bullpen. That's a lot to overcome. None of these guys are playing poorly because they're not trying.

Yeah because last year the pitchers weren't trying so that's why JD called them out.

Give your f***ing head a shake. It's about firing up a team, same reason why managers get themselves ejected. That's why JD did it last year, that's why something similar needs to be done here.

I guess by your insane logic there is no such thing as a motivational speech, eh BTS? Dumbass.

Josh Donaldson's speech was so motivating that they went 7-9 in the next 16 games. Did it just take 3 weeks to sink in? Nobody needed Josh Donaldson to obnoxiously tell the media that it's the 'get it done league'. Nobody needs him to do it this year.

It's a funny little story about an arrogant player that we all love, but to act like JD's bitching to the media turned the season around is pretty silly.

Hey BTS, enlighten us again about how Shatkins is so much better than AA because he has built so much more depth into this team than AA ever did again?

This team has ZERO depth. It's been on full display early this year.

But really, the team's 10-13 start isn't a mystery, and the problem isn't lack of effort.

- Above average starting 2B hasn't played a single game, and the replacements have been replacement level.

- Star high priced catcher has been ridiculously awful and might be hurt.

- Star high priced shortstop has been just about average.

- Star DH who is a top-10 hitter in the league has been a league average hitter.

- bullpen has gone through a bad stretch to start the season

Questionable managing by Gibbons has to be in there too. His pen decisions have been pretty bad consistently. I grant that the pitchers haven't performed well but he's left starters in too long, hasn't had arms ready to come in when they're needed and not used the platoon advantage enough.

Lol what a retard

Are you really not able to grasp the insane level of competition required simply to become a MLB player? Do you think guys get here and then f*** off, because who cares?

Yeah, definitely. Good thing Donaldson is around to tell guys that they are supposed to try to win games. Unreasonable to think they would realize that fact on their own.

As someone who has a mentally challenged relative, I am extremely offended by your choice of words, boxcar

As someone with a relative of low intellect, I'm offended by your use of the word "dumbass".

What kind of depth can salvage several star players slumping right out of the gate? You're not going to bench your starting DH, SS, and C for roleplayer depth. You're also not going to bench the struggling BP core either -- Cecil, Storen, Chavez (is Chavez struggling? Seems like he always gives up some noise). Depth is intended for backup when some guys are banged up. It's not a plan B for when the floor collapses.

The starting pitching is in pretty good shape in terms of depth. I think the lack of depth on the offensive side has more to do with roster mismanagement than depth. Better options are sitting in Buffalo right now.

True and use of Leon to Souza still haunts me, but Gibby would look a hell of a lot better if anyone other than Osuna was doing, or better yet exceeding, what we expected. Managing a dumpster fire in the pen can't be easy.

The pen is totally unreliable at the moment and last night proved that Gibbons is afraid of it too. The 7th inning with Estrada was prime BP time for Gibby, and I think it's pretty obvious the reason he didn't make the call was because none of his non-Osuna RPs have reliably been able to come in and just make a decisive out.

I agree about the roster setup, but my real point is that no amount of smart roster construction can make up for Edwin, Tulo, Cola, and Martin having back-to-back-to-back terrible ABs so frequently. It's a lull that has to pass and can't really be regularly bandaged over.

Super perceptive.

Floyd and Chavez have looked pretty good. It's really just Cecil and Storen, the guys we were depending on who have been s***.

Squints is a bit worrying. Velocity down by about 1 mph across the board, swstr dropped big time from last year, guys aren't chasing out of the zone nearly as much. He's throwing a few more curves but pitch usage hasn't changed drastically. Fly balls up, line drives almost at 30 (!!) percent, groundballs way down. Storen appears to suddenly legitimately suck now as well. I wonder if Cecil is tipping his curve? Or is he just not commanding it? Or is the extra fraction of a second hitters can wait on the fastball all it takes?

He doesn't appear to trust his fastball at all right now, he's getting really predictable with throwing the curve which neuters it's effectiveness. He can throw his curve for strikes, but not 60+% of the time, so batters are just spitting on it. That's my anecdotal take, anyway.

Also his curve doesn't appear to have mid-season break just yet. He kinda sucked to start last year so I'll reserve my worries for now, but Storen is a f***ing batting practice piece of s*** at the moment. He gained weight and lost velo, everything is juicy.

Don't worry guys, this team will get it together once I'm on vacation. I go down south for a week every year early June and I swear the team has been something like 20-1 while I was gone the past three years. The 2013 and first 2015 11 game win streak took place while I was away.

Why go south in June? NBD, just a weird time to go

Storen this year doesn't look too much different from 2012-2014 Storen actually walking less guys than he was. Perhaps last year was just a career year for him.

The difference is the velo. Its a huge drop.

Yup. Just under 2MPH on the fastball and slider, over 2MPH drop with his sinker. His heater the last two starts has been mostly 90. I think you will see a further decline in his whiff rate which is a large part of his issues IMO.

It's nuts and he's barely pitched. It's getting worse and worse too with every start it looks like.

I go every six months, once in winter once in summer. Going down south at that time is amazing. The ocean is like a Jacuzzi and it takes 20 minutes to tan before you're dark.

Also prices are much cheaper and the resort isn't so packed.
