gbill2004 Verified Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 What if they just said to him: "Jose, we think you should get more ABs than anyone else on this team." Contract year. He'd say no and then throw a fit. Then he'd go and give Barry Davis a wedgie.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Jose would throw a fit I am sure. It does make sense since Donaldson can drive him in when Jose walks 2 times a game only draw back is Jose will have to rely on the bottom of the order to get on base for him to drive in if he gets anything to hit. Yes Bautista likes to win But he's also in a contract year. His biggest one ever and possibly his last. He wants RBIs. It's what he's expected to produce.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Andrew Walker on the 590 just said he thinks Jose should hit lead off...... Great idea
CHRIS Verified Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 He wants RBIs. It's what he's expected to produce. Do you think he needs a gaudy RBI total to cash in next season? I think his resume is strong enough that if he hits a bunch of dingers and gets on base a tonne that he's going to cash in regardless.

BTS Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 There can't be any FO left in the league that give RBI even passing consideration.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 That OBP. He's actually a decent baserunner too. Pillar isnt getting on base in front of him. Maybe he'd do it without complaint until Travis gets back.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 He doesn't run this team, he doesn't get to say no. Unfortunately he kinda does. Gibby doesn't have the balls to ask him anyways.

Cyborg Verified Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Saunders is the much more realistic option for leadoff. He's hitting well and projects for an above average OBP.

It's what he's expected to produce. Bautista isn't stupid. He even referenced WAR in why he asked for the contract he did. If he gets moved up to leadoff he will get more PA and in theory produce more WAR. I'm not so sure he would turn down the idea. Even then Saunders hitting leadoff would be a lot better. My guess is they give it another week and if Pillar still is in a slump they change it up.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 It never was. After what Smoak did at the plate yesterday I don't see how you could have given him the start. He just can't make contact with a low breaking ball. Compared to what Colabello has done? I would much rather Smoak in there.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Only downside to having Saunders leadoff is you have b2b LHH with Goins so it makes it easy for a manager to bring in a Lefty late in the game. Could put Pillar 9th and Goins 8th though I guess.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Colabello chose a bad year to suxxxx. Jays needs him badly, because the windows (Edwin, Jose, Cecil)
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Bautista is really the perfect fit in the leadoff spot. His on base percentage is over .500 right now. And you know hes going to be around .400 all year. Having Bautista and Donaldson get the most at-bats on the team just makes way to much f***ing sense.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Compared to what Colabello has done? I would much rather Smoak in there. They've both been crap. Take out Smoak's HBP and he's got a .125 OBP while striking out half the time. I think Smoak plays against a RHP that is more FB/CH. Unitl he can show he can lay off a low breaking ball pitchers will continue to strike him out.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 He doesn't run this team, he doesn't get to say no. Forcing it on him helps nobody. If they can communicate it to him the reasons why they want him to do it, and how it helps the team, then maybe. A happy Jose hitting 3rd is (likely) better for the team than a sulky Jose being forced to lead off. I think the trick is to find a way to have a happy Jose leading off.

Well I'll still take Pillar the hitter over Goins if thats what it came to. Just to balance the L/R split I think you would do that.

Lol I don't think Jose is going to be pissed off hitting leadoff. Its not like his numbers are just going to go to s***. Tulo finally gout to hit in the middle of the order and didn't make a difference how well he hit. Theses guys want to win and I'm sure they won't stand in the way if the team will improve.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 What would today's lineup look like if Bautista hit first? Bautista Donaldson Tulo? Edwin Saunders Martin Smoak Pillar Goins
