Pillar's OBP in Spring Training was .288, 2015 season it was .314, even Ryan Goins was on base more than him.

The question is, will this last and if not who replaces him?

If Saunders keeps hitting well, it should be a matter of weeks.

"I'm not expecting anything from Saunders. This team has massive issues in LF." - BTS all offseason

"If Saunders keeps hitting, he should be leading off in a matter of weeks" - BTS after day 2 of the season

I doubt it changes unless we struggle as a team. He would have to not hit at all.

One thing that seems to get overlooked is Pillar hardly strikes out. If he can keep that going he should be okay. Have to think when Travis gets back they switch it up anyway.

Hardly striking out (with low OBP) is much more important when there are people on base in front of you. Much better suited near the bottom of order.

I know, thats why I want him hitting 8th lol. Also his baserunning is a lot more valuable lower in the lineup.

I'm just saying people seem to overlook that in general about him as a hitter.

There was literally no effort required there I assume.

It was a stupid post chasing internet likes from dumb people. There is nothing logically inconsistent about A) being of the opinion during the offseason that we should have a good 4th OF in case Saunders' knee causes him problems, and B) wanting him to hit above Pillar in the lineup now that he's healthy and has looked good offensively for a month now.

Have a feeling if/when Travis comes back he will spend some extra time in Triple-A. And would hit 8th or 9th when he returns for a good chunk of time.

Ofcourse this also depends on how Goins is performing. Not in our eyes in Gibby's eyes. My worst fear is they try to platoon them. I can absolutely see that happening unfortunately.

I just hate giving one of our worst OBP guys the most at bats. I really hope Saunders continues and it all ends in a week.

Yeah, remembering your consistent offseason attitude about Saunders sure was difficult

I think Pillar will "hit" enough for dumbass Gibby to just keep him there, like Alcides Escobar. Plus, Pillar seems like an entitled baby and unaware of his lack of skill with the bat so he'd probably throw a fit.

It's really, really stupid. Gibbons is da worst.

Don't like the move with Pillar at lead off, but I'm not sure why so many want to see Saunders there either with the other choices this team has.

Guy has a career OBP and wOBA of .301 Do people feel he'll do better than that? We are 2 games in.

Christ, last year lots of people thought he was deceased.

I don't see why they feel the need to experimnet with him in the leadoff spot to begun with when he's allergic to walks and getting on base.

Ya he can steal the occasional bag, but you cant steal 1st. Old school thinking at its worst.

He has a career walk rate of 9.2% over nearly 2000 MLB PA, that's more indicative of future OBP. Of course he'll need to be healthy and actually hit to prove to be an adequate leadoff hitter, but the argument is over Pillar and his 4% walk rate. Martin would likely be better than both anyways.

Gibby isn't one to let s*** like this go bad for too long before accepting it won't work

Farrell OTOH...
