Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Oh why oh why couldn't Tim and Sid bring up Kirk Gibson or Fisk or all the other times when old school guys showed up the other team...miss opportunity.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 And why didn't they ask if Ray Fossie was blocking the plate correctly when Rose distroyed him....I thought catchers back then sent runners out on stretchers.....
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 People that don't like when players show emotion or their personalities during the game confound me. This is not to mention just how stupid it is to act like things like this never used to happen. Didn't Babe Ruth, one of the most revered players of all time, point and call his homeruns? That's gotta be cockyness / showboating to the extreme and you never hear old guys bashing that. Lol, he did that once, not for all his Hrs. Find a better example.

I think you're taking this a bit too far. Goose is f***ing losing it, case closed.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I've been on the record saying I don't like Bautista personally as a man, but i liked the bat flip. Gossage comes off as a total self-absorbed moron here. Side note is Gossage a f***ing drunk? Is he autistic? No, but he was a cheat... hypocrit
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Gossage once got in a fight with a teammate and injured himself. He was out for 6 weeks. Not sure why fighting a teammate is ok in his book. It was probably when he called Reggie or Rickey out for pimping a HR or snap catch during a regular season game. Oh wait....he probably didn't call them out, because he's a gutless sack of s***.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I didn't like the bat flip, but I am old school. When I hammered it out, enjoy it but run the entire time.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 He's right about Ryan Braun though. Anti-Semite As for Goose...didn't he fight Cliff Johnson in the shower after racial jokes. In Goose terms, you're a f***ing disgrace to your generation

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 When Yoenis was asked he asked who goose was lol
TilsonBritoFan Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 (edited) Hey Gossage, remember this? Similar incident in 1987 from nobody Tom Lawless. How dare he disrespect the game?: Or how about this contemporary of yours: Hey Goose, weren't you on this team? I like the bat flip but my favorite part might be at 0:34 when he tips his cap to the fans to mock them, cause thats s*** totally didn't happen back then right Goose? TBJ12 Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I don't recall Gossage calling out Eckersley after his fist pump and stare down in the 92 ALCS... sounds like he may still be a little bitter.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 for those of you saying this stuff...Gossage was well known for calling out his teammates, opponents everyone that he felt showed opponents up. He's not being inconsistent. He's just too stupid to realize that stuff happened then, the reach of the highlights are just so much greater and so much more instant now. Did you hear his Tim and Sid interview? He's just saying what he and most of his generation were taught (with his dislike for the catcher rule change and the second base slide). This doesn't excuse it of course as I was also taught this stuff...I just am smart enough to understand that the changes are for the better.

He specifically mentions the Blue Jays and Cespedes.
fireballW Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I don't mind seeing some personalities show, but some of it is just dumb. Pointing to the sky to acknowledge a higher power is lame. Sammy Sosa's antics were also annoying. And sports in general, when your team is getting slaughtered and you hit a bomb, score a goal or score a TD........the celebration afterwards is dumb. Being annoyed at some players and disliking them makes it more fun to watch though. You were probably extra happy when McGuire beat Sosa because you hated the way Sosa acted.

Are you saying he never stared an opponent down or anything like that? That would be very disrespectful. I don't know, I'd find hard to believe that he didn't.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Although I'm a traditionalist, the new rules on the takeout slides at home and second base just make sense. I'm still upset about Bill Madlock running five feet off the base to smash into frail, little Fernandez, and breaking his elbow, causing him to be out for the season, and for the Jays to miss the post-season as a result.
Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Bigger home runs have been hit in that stadium where guys didn't at like a douche. Not very many. We were talking about you and how you acted when you hammered one out
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Not very many. We were talking about you and how you acted when you hammered one out Maybe he's refering to hammering something else out...
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I have to say I really like how Bautista handled himself in this situation. A respectful "sorry you feel that way" was probably the best way to address this one.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Author Posted March 11, 2016 Gossage continues to embarrass himself on the radio circuit today. Unbelievable.

ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Author Posted March 11, 2016 "i just found them to be unnecessary. I have tried to analyze it, in every way that my creativity allows me to, and i find no scenario where he would have something positive to gain from it…but he must have his reasons. Many people feel bad or offended or humiliated by such comments, but playing baseball is a great learning experience and one of the many things i have learned is to leave by the wayside unnecessary comments and things that make no sense, therefore it is easy for me not to engage in any conflict in this case. A lot of baseball players nowadays are a little more connected with their emotions, and that is our style, we understand and respect that once upon a time it was different, but we live in the now." Bautista today. Lol
