Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I've said this before, but it bears repeating. These baseball "traditionalists" are almost almost white, American men, and their version of being a "disgrace to the game" or "playing the game the wrong way" is almost always directed at Latin players. This out of touch piece of trash has no idea about Latin culture, or how the game is played in those countries. This ******** is just another example of "This is America. If you're not like us, you're wrong". Here I thought Goose Gossage was definitely white.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 To be fair, people also hate Bryce Harper for similarly idiotic things.
Slugger Verified Member Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 r/lewronggeneration would love this. Holy f***.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 They're just cranky that players today get millions of dollars a year and they didn't, which happened after the nerds figured out how to turn baseball into a big, profitable business.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 OMFG. What an embarrassing rant.

Meh. Lifetime Salary: $10,103,330, and those numbers don't include his first 5 years in the league though I'm sure that's marginal. Gossage had the opportunity to put his money into Microsoft stock 'run by nerds' and make more than 100 times his money. Hell, if he didn't like the stock market because it's for nerds, he could have bought luxury property and be sitting on something that's 20 times what he paid for it. Baseball salaries have outpaced inflation, but inflation still exists. No baseball player from the 70's and 80's is starving unless they drank or snorted their life savings away.

Which is the huge irony here. "Oh, what am I supposed to tell the kids?" Dude, you guys were hitting the dings so hard it wasn't even funny.

Whats crazy is one day in the majors nets you lifetime healthcare coverage, 43 days nets you minimum pension of 34k a year.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Aren't you like 5 years younger than Gossage? Sorry, couldn't resist. nothing to be sorry about... it's 12 years, but sure. lol I've tried to embrace technology. Gossage says that the smartest people shouldn't be running baseball. That's simply a asinine. To be against a system that is smarter than the old "eye test" really makes no sense now that most people understand that it works.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Wilner: "Gossage is an old man yelling at clouds" Think he reads this forum much? I'm 100% certain he does. Whether he understands it is much less certain.

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I wonder if Gossage would've preferred Gibson's '84 WS blast celebration when Gibson blew kisses to the crowd and nearly took half a dozen team mates arms off.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Author Posted March 11, 2016 Sid did a good job arguing with Gossage. By the end of the interview Tim and Sid were exchanging looks like they were talking to drunk Uncle.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 People that don't like when players show emotion or their personalities during the game confound me. This is not to mention just how stupid it is to act like things like this never used to happen. Didn't Babe Ruth, one of the most revered players of all time, point and call his homeruns? That's gotta be cockyness / showboating to the extreme and you never hear old guys bashing that. I don't mind seeing some personalities show, but some of it is just dumb. Pointing to the sky to acknowledge a higher power is lame. Sammy Sosa's antics were also annoying. And sports in general, when your team is getting slaughtered and you hit a bomb, score a goal or score a TD........the celebration afterwards is dumb.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 He's right about Ryan Braun though. I wonder if he's ever attempted to knock former teammates McGwire & Canseco's teeth out?
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I wonder if Goose still uses a rotary phone. smoke signals... Morse code is too modern.
