bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 I hope Hutch gets another chance in the rotation, the guy showed flashes of absolute brilliance; (Rangers, brewers, and White Sox games to name a few) and as far as im concerned Sanchez hasn't proven anything.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Yeah for a guy throwing 96(ish), that thing needs to be in the 80s. 86-88 would be about right. He probably has long fingers so you think he could find some kind of changeup / palm / split grip that would work for him. Great point! Let's hope it is still a work in progress and some changes will be made. An 8-10 mph difference is definitely ideal for change-up. If Sanchez were throwing 98-100 like Thor than he could live with a 90mph change, but he can't do it throwing 94-97.
Chowder888 Verified Member Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Can we trade Saunders now that his value is high? This guy won't last more than 10 games this season. Get Bruce now Cincy wants him gone so bad.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Man Storen is looking very hittable this spring so far. 3 deeps flyouts to the track.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Man Storen is looking very hittable this spring so far. Don't worry bro. Cecil didn't even pitch in ST last year and remember how he threw 2nd half. Spring training is just that. He could be working on a weak pitch for him. You never know.

Saunders is worth the risk since we have depth.

You may be right, he could be trying something out.

But it's best not to get high or low on anyone from this stuff. Smart mgm is looking for subtle things in the players and execution. Not the actual results at this point. Ex. Saunders movement in OF...the quickness of his bat, the sprinkler head he might step on this season.

In the game that Saunders hit 2 homers there was a line drive hit down the left field side and I thought off the bat it might get to the wall and Saunders cut it off easily. I remember watching him last year thinking he could hardly run. He looks a lot faster this year, but it's just the old eye test.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Sanchez gets a called strike 3 on a curveball; Wilner - "just give him a rotation spot now!" Sanchez who can't miss bats proceeds to give up three line drive hits to garbage baseball players. Saved by baserunning error. I haven't really paid close enough attention. Sanchez has 6 strike outs in 4 innings and doesn't have a single swinging strike? He needs to buy a lottery ticket.

Actually, some of the best change ups in the game (King Felix, Grienke) only have 4-5 MPH difference....it's untraditional, but it's getting amazing results....not saying Sanchez's change is good by any means, but the old 10 mph adage is not necessarily true anymore.

Pat Tabler will tell me about 10,000 times this season that exactly this is critical.
Governator Community Moderator Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 It's nice to know Saunders actually has the skills as advertised. Now wrap him in bubble wrap.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Pat Tabler will tell me about 10,000 times this season that exactly this is critical. How does this happen? A man who has spent vast majority of his life around and playing baseball is so ignorant regarding certain things like this, or when buck goes on a rant about saber metrics being the devil incarnate. You could chalk it up to age, but even Greg Zaun who isn't exactly old is caught saying stuff like this all the time.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I'll happily take 100 games from Saunders. which leaves 62 for who? I know we have options, but it will be interesting to see who they go with as the 4th outfielder any chance we can start the season with a 4 man bench with people who can actually play above replacement? Thole is one, maybe Barny as the infield guy... then who?

I'm not against Pompey, but if they do bring him north they need to get him regular AB. pace Saunders, Give Jose the odd game off from the outfield, let Pillar sit against some righties. I'd be worried that Gibby runs the same guys out every day.

As stated earlier, the 4th OF guy plays a LOT of games, and resting Bautista @ DH and Saunders with days off occasionally seems like a very good idea.

One aspect of the change-ups that is never discussed is the time between the pitches. If a change-up is delivered in a shorter period of time from the previous pitch the change-up is more affective.

I absolutely cringe with the thought that Carrera makes this team. I hate seeing needless showboating dives on routine flyballs!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2016 Author Posted March 8, 2016 Bautista and Saunders get off days. f*** Pillar. He can take it. And we need that CF defense. He plays 158 this year. LOL
