Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I guess....Carrerra? Dear God, no. Regular OF trio of Pompey, Pillar, Bautista. Bruce the 4th OF and can also play 1B/DH.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 If Pompey is in the minors, who is the 4th OF? Lake or Carrera, most likely. Unless they pick someone else up.
admin Site Manager Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 If the deal from the Jays end is just Saunders for Bruce, then I don't see why it would make anyone think less of Shapiro. I'm not a Bruce fan by any means, but Saunders is not even close to a sure thing as far as staying healthy, and Bruce does have some offensive upside. To me it comes down to 1. how much money the Reds are picking up, and 2. what else the Jays are giving up. If it's Saunders for Bruce with the Jays not picking up any (or much) salary and no prospect is involved, and it's a meh trade at worst. It really depends on those two things. Of course, reviewing Saunders' records might take us into the start of the season. Before typing this post, have you actually looked at what Bruce has done over the last two years? Or do you want to get Cito and gang here to see if they can turn him into the next Bautista?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I feel so bad for Saunders he want to be a Blue Jays and desperately want to play here, f*** Saphiro and his cronies. I wouldnt be surprised if Saunders made it known he would welcome a trade. Angels grass is much better than Rogers Centre cement.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 If they were going to trade for Bruce I would have liked to keep Saunders and play him at 1st base. His bat is a lot better than Smoak and made less money.

Even if the Reds pay the salary difference and the Jays don't give up a prospect you're forgetting Bruce has been worth -0.8 WAR (MINUS) over the past 2 years. Saunders was worth 2 WAR in 1/2 a season in 2014. I know that's old news and the knee injury may not allow him to return to that level, but Jay Bruce f***ing sucks...

If they think Bruce can bounce back offensively, and don't have to add payroll or trade prospects in this swap, then what's the big deal? Saunders is a year removed from knee surgery and missing all of 2015. There's no guarantee he's going to be healthy or good. If they think Bruce's offense can be fixed, and that's all they have to give up to see if it can, then it's not worthy of negative backlash. If no money is involved, or the Jays are sending meaningful prospects, then that's a different story.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Why wouldnt you play Bruce at 1B instead lmfao Health. My guess is the blue jays are trading Saunders because of concerns about his health. Its a lot easier for his body to be on dirt at 1st than the turf in the OF.

And a s***** contract. And terrible defense. Even if he can hit decently, his defense will counteract that.
