Assuming no prospects of any value are going to Cinci, there is definitely a price at which its defensible to pay a bit more for Bruce. The team might prefer him for a variety of reasons: doubts about Saunders' health, doubts about Saunder's ability to perform if he's playing, a belief that Bruce has something left in the tank etc...

Apparently a 3-way deal is in place. Saunders to LAA, prospect from LA to Cincy, Jay Bruce to the Jays. Ken Rosenthal has been tweeting about it so it must be legit.

 

No deal is confirmed right now though, and no teams have commented yet.

Bautista called Rogers cheap *******s. Then 5 hours later there's trade rumours involving Jay Bruce from the Reds in a 3 way deal including the Athletics. The 3 way is already a no go according to sources but Jas still trying to land Bruce. THE Jays are on Bruce's no-trade list but is apparantly willing to waive it.

I feel like 2015 Jay Bruce was maybe basically the same dude as 2008-2013 Jay Bruce, just with worse luck and worse defense.

 

It wouldn't surprise me to see him put up, like, 120 wRC+ and 2.5 WAR or whatever. Wouldn't say it's necessarily likely, but if we're paying like $4m, that's a better risk than Saunders is. By a lot.

The most attractive thing about Bruce on the Jays would be that he would be facing a lot of RHP. He loses a lot of value being terrible vs LHP but with at least 7 hitters being RH he shouldn't be facing hardly any Loogys.

I know a lot of you were high on Saunders even before we acquired him, but so far there has been nothing to like except the same old s*** he's been known for and the only reason he'd be moved is if FO feels like nothing will improve. It's not like he's going to bust out with 140 game season and be a 4 win player. Our LF is most certainly a wildcard going in to the season and while Jay Bruce isnt likely to go dialing the clock back and being a stud, maybe he can be average or better with some luck while eating a lot of games in a spot we don't have solitified atm. If the reds eat his salary down, Bruce over Saunders isn't the worst thing.
