Pompey + Alford + Dickey + Thole for Jay Bruce.

Would you do it this year to solidify another playoff run? I prefer Bruce over Justin Smoak.

Jay Bruce:

- Solidies the left field option

- Adds a much needed left handed power bat

- 1 year left at 12 million, and another option year at 13 million.

- potential gold glove/silver slugger candidate

- will prob hit 35-40 HR at hitter friendly Rogers center.

- will help ease the pain of either/both of EE or Bautista walking next season

- still young, 28 years old

- pretty durable health wise

Either you're trolling or you haven't really researched this idea. I've posted his stats from his last two season as well as his current Steamer projection below. He still hits some homeruns but he's not a 35-40 guy anymore, his slash line is brutal and by fWAR he's a negative asset defensively. He's not a Gold Glove or Silver Slugger candidate by any reasonable stretch and when you factor his salary, he's a negative asset. There's absolutely no reason to give up anything of value for Jay Bruce at this point. Certainly not 1/5 of your rotation and 2/3 of what might be your OF of the future.

I don't like making that assumption. I don't think it's fair to posters who might merely be casuals and not well versed in baseball stats.

That is a weird trade proposal.

I'd be interested in trading for anyone that makes the team better...but it would have to be the right deal.

What we saw in the OP is NOT the right deal.

No offence, but that's one of the dumbest trade proposals I've ever read. Bruce has negative trade value. To even trade Alford alone for him would be a firable decision.

Dickey for Bruce is close but thats it. And GG contender? Wat.

I don't think it is 200 innings of slightly above average baseball is a lot better then whatever Bruce brings lol

I don't mean to pile on but I wouldn't trade any of those three main players you mentioned straight up for Jay Bruce; never mind combining all 3 together.

@jonheyman: Jay Bruce is coming up in trade talks still. Blue Jays could be a possibility.

You have to think it'll either be Seattle or Arizona. He seems like the kind of player they both target.
