Griffey really gets viewed through rose coloured lenses. There's an assumption that he must have been clean because he wore a backwards baseball cap and smiled and whatever but any other player who put up similar power numbers is assumed to have cheated. I obviously don't know more than anyone else does but making assumptions that any player was clean from that era seems incredibly naive. The same shadow hangs over everyone which kind of sucks if there actually were any clean players but that's just the reality of that era.

Griffey gets the most votes of alltime - Bagwell had more WAR....I never would have guessed that...

 

Griffey had 74 WAR in his first 12 seasons at the age of 31. HOF just isn't about career WAR.

 

Larry Walker has more career WAR than Tim Raines yet he hardly got any votes this year.

Even if you're self righteous about PED use about Bonds and co. there's no defensible reason to not vote Griffey. An omission like that deserves every form of ridicule.

 

As far as I'm concerned if you want to be a chud about Bonds, etc., at least that's a reason. Why no Griffey, though? Speak up, boy.

It's perfectly reasonable to not vote for Griffey. You know he will be elected, so no need to vote for him and you can give a vote to someone else deserving.

It's perfectly reasonable to not vote for Griffey. You know he will be elected, so no need to vote for him and you can give a vote to someone else deserving.

 

I kind of undermined my own point earlier in the thread with my badly written last post, but what I meant to say was that there should be no defensible reason to not vote Griffey. The HOF system sucks and should never incentivize not voting for a first-balloter. As it is, the system does, but I think the non-votes should make a statement. I'd like to think it was a strategic reasons but you can never rule out stubbornness/statement votes.

A lot of people should lose their voting rights but never do. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who hasn't used all ten spots the past few years should lose their vote but that's well over half of the entire pool.

Seems like a yearly ritual for me where every single year Mike Mussina isn't voted in I go to his fangraphs page and check out his numbers and am wowed and amazed like it's the first time I've seen his numbers. What a career.
