KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Has to be an injury of some kind. He came out this year just as good as he was last and then just stopped. Yeah I mean I get that but if so what's the injury and what's the recovery? That's the millions dollar question.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 They just had this conversation on MLB Central... who'd you take as a franchise hitter going forward out of Correa/Seager and Bryant... Ripken, Floyd took Seager and the host (forget the name) took Bryant. Ripken said he'd take Seager over any player in the MLB?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Lol It's hard to compare the two, Harper's offensive ceiling is so much higher, but Machado is a god at 3B and would probably also be an elite defensive SS. As a dynasty owner, give me Harper for sure.

Ripken, Floyd took Seager and the host (forget the name) took Bryant. Seager/Bryant is an interesting debate, but IMO Correa isn't in that tier. Seager has 8.0 WAR in his first 147 games, Bryant is on pace for 8 WAR, and Correa's defensive limitations have him as more of a 5-6 WAR player, which is obviously still fantastic.

Yeah, I can agree with that, they were breaking down Seagers' swing on the Change/Slider/Curve and Fastball, both were saying there's no flaw in it, which will keep him from slumping and when pitchers adjust, it just doesn't matter, pretty high praise. This is all moving forward, of course.

If so, I'll take the elite 3B defender (and possibly elite SS defender) over the bat-only corner OF who hasn't even hit that well this year.

Not surprising he'd say something like that, basically a white Harold Reynolds.

Yes, it was him... he and Floyd made excellent points on how long his bat stays through the zone, it was pretty interesting, even for Billy Ripken, lol.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 If that's Billy Ripken, he's a retard. Not surprising he'd say something like that, basically a white Harold Reynolds. Yeah, Billy Ripken is a full tard. It wouldn't surprise me he would say that though, because Little Seags is a lot like Billy's bro.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Dynasty, I take Harper. I thought he question was MLB though. Both are super elite, I don't think there's really a wrong answer.

That's an extremely tough answer.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Curious what your projections of Seager are going forward Probably like 110 wRC+ this year with 18 HR, but going forward the sky is the limit. Could be Cal Ripken. Oh s***, I'm Billy Ripken!

Crazy how good he was last year and how much he improved since then.

I'd like to see Seager do it again next season, which is why I'd probably take Bryant right now. Though it's obviously a close call and I don't think you could go wrong with either.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I'd take Bryant as well. I think his bat is more special and his defensive versatility is nice. Plus, he's sexy af.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I absolutely love Joe Maddon's/the Cubs' strategy of making every player as versatile as possible. It tries to fix the issue of prospects being blocked at some position because an established MLB player is there instead. Of course, not everyone can do it, but to have a guy like Kris Bryant being able to play multiple defensive positions at a high level is just so incredibly useful that it warrants praise. Ben Zobrists all over the field!

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Gerrit Cole... isn't very good.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Gerrit Cole... isn't very good. Mid 7 K/9, sub-10% SwStr %, xFIP approaching 4... kinda reminds me of Sonny Gray. I was so, so close to taking him over Syndergaard, too.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Gerrit Cole... isn't very good. I own Cole in a EPSN Dynasty League. Should I trade him straight up for EE?
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I own Cole in a EPSN Dynasty League. Should I trade him straight up for EE? If someone offered me that in BORED I'd accept without thinking twice.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I own Cole in a EPSN Dynasty League. Should I trade him straight up for EE? How many teams in your league? Who else do you have at 1B/DH? Who else is in your rotation? In a vacuum, I would say no. You'd be selling Cole at the bottom of a down cycle and buying EE at peak value, but depending on how competitive you are and the depth of your SP, it might make sense.

I have Chris Carter and Travis Shaw who I'm running at 1B, along with Profar who has 1B eligibility. I own Ortiz and Morales as well, but both only have UTL eligibility in EPSN. My pitching after Cole is Carrasco, Iwakuma, Bauer, Kazmir (DL), Kennedy, Gio Gonzalez, Colon, McCarthy (DL), Derek Holland and Chad Green.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 What place are you in and how many teams make the playoffs? I'd probably do it, he's a big upgrade on CCC and your 1B/DH situation will be ugly after Ortiz retires. Owning EE really is a pleasure.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 People put too much stock in pitcher's age. Expecting even a young horse to still be productive in 4-5 years is a big stretch, and it's not like EE is going to call it quits soon.

There's also nothing to really indicate that Cole is suddenly going to take it to a higher gear. He's never been a high whiff guy, so unless something changes, I can't see him becoming a K/IP starter. Could be he's just more of a fantasy SP2 than an ace.
