More like the upgrade over Bautista in RF defensively. Bautista could then move to 1B. So really Heyward is a huge upgrade on Smoak.

 

Also gives them flexibility if Bautista and EE leave as FA in 2017.

Well you wouldn't need to sign Bautista or EE in that case. Heyward is likely going to provide a good amount of surplus value on 20 Million as well. Regardless 2017 is going to be really tough to manage since there is a lot of money tied up.

Why would the league care about the only Canadian team suffering from a weaker exchange rate? I'd assume all their conversations are in and about USD. This is on Rogers if true. I know small business owners that hedge against exchange rate fluctuation, it is highly unlikely Rogers doesn't hedge.

I doubt the league cares about the exchange rate per se, but, if the Jays come in with a lower revenue that would have an impact on crying hard times.
