Praxis Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 except that team was projected to win 86 Sorry, genuine question: which team? My recollection was that the Jays 2013 team was odds on favourite to win the World Series in Vegas.
spittin Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Chris Young the pitcher has a 2 year deal worth 11.5 million with a yet to be named team. Can anyone smart here explain the gap between Young's and Dickey's AAV? 5.5M they seem to be pretty similar assets imo.

Apparently he's signed with the Royals along with Soria. Can't answer your initial question though. I would've taken Young on that deal. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/done-deals--mlb-winter-meetings-recap-news-signing-trade-145811378.html

We could have offered him less later perhaps.

flafson Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Wonder what type of package Dodgers sent to get Chapman.

The others would be the Tampa and Cleveland types who aren't armed with competitive payrolls, I don't think he'd get 2/30, no way.

spittin Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Dickey was also signed to the contract after winning the Cy Young. The option was executed this off season so that's irrelevant. Picking it up is saying we'd have at least offered 12/1yr.
spittin Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Dickey f***ing sucks, he projects for a 4.73 FIP and roughly 2 K/BB while giving up lots of bombs.
Nafro Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Holmes and Peraza? Reds then trade Brandon Phillips?

I will say I am a bit concerned with the lack of swing and miss last season. He usually gets off to terrible starts before getting better in the 2nd half as well.

Who cares what his FIP projection is? And even if you did, I'm pretty sure that Steamer isn't considering that he's a knuckleballer when projecting decline. Basically, projections are worthless for Dickey.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Holmes and Peraza? Reds then trade Brandon Phillips? That's a pretty lacklustre return. Kimbrel fetched a much better package. Plz start him LA. Plzzzzzzzzzz
xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Wouldn't be surprised if our new ninja GM walked away from these meetings having traded for Jose Fernandez. Now, Stroman/Fernandez is a legit top 2.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016-mlb-free-agent-tracker Don't see who on that list that we could afford and that would be as efficient as Lowe was?

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Don't see who on that list that we could afford and that would be as efficient as Lowe was? Mark Lowe wasn't even very good as a Blue Jay. I don't understand the strong desire to have him back. Any RH RP will suffice. Maybe it's a minor league deal guy and Toronto gets the 2016 incarnation of "Mark Lowe".

I understand that relievers are a crapshoot, but when you have a good team with a s*** bullpen, it gets infuriating. Look at 2014 Tigers, for example. It will be interesting to see if Hutch and Chavez end up turning into BP assets

There's nothing wrong with the pen.

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 The offseason has simply become a part of the spectator sport. People just want to see their team do STUFF. ANY STUFF. Three years for Mark Lowe! Entertain me, executives! Give me something to retweet!!!!
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Teams that have inquired on LHP Tony Sipp say he's looking for a Zach Duke-Boone Logan type contract. Three years, $5-6M per.
