Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Was hoping (although probably unrealistically) to see a jay but i guess its just another one of those years. Russell Martin won the Gold Glove at C last year in the NL.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 This is fair, Pillar can't win for CF when KK is putting up outrageous numbers there.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Damn, I thought Pillar was gonna win CF
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Damn, I thought Pillar was gonna win CF Kiermaier's on another level.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Kiermaier's on another level. True, just took a look at his defensive runs saved, pretty epic.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Thought Martin would of had a chance at C. Sal Perez seems to get a better reputation for his defense than he actually produces.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Gonna be some outrage from blue jays fans who don't know who Kevin Kiermaier is.
Lilbigstro Verified Member Posted November 11, 2015 Author Posted November 11, 2015 Russell Martin won the Gold Glove at C last year in the NL. And to contradict myself - for what its worth - i forgot dickey won it in '13. So not as big a gap in this award as i claimed. I just wonder what they'll say when Cain wins mvp. Man im bitter tonight lol.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Gonna be some outrage from blue jays fans who don't know who Kevin Kiermaier is. Pillar would have won under the old 3 outfielders system, which I like better. He's a better left fielder than Cespedes, that's for damn sure.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 The new system is dumn. Very dumn... Pillar was a shoe in under the original criteria. Whomever came up with this idea, needs to be tarred and feathered.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Keirmeier beating Pillar is to be expected, but f***ing Cespedes and Calhoun?
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Kiermaier's on another level. KK's arm strength is ridiculous... Pillar isn't in the same universe
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Thought Martin would of had a chance at C. Sal Perez seems to get a better reputation for his defense than he actually produces. going to the backstop to get Dickey's knuckleball probably took him out of it.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 True, just took a look at his defensive runs saved, pretty epic. None better
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 First of all, changing the OF system into a LF, CF and RF Gold Glove is quite stupid, as we're all aware. Some egregious selections imo: -Catchers in both leagues. Framing is a thing, for one, in which Salvador Perez is quite bad at, and both catchers seemed to win out of reputation, which is annoying. -NL SS. Really? Why is Simmons of all people not being given the reputation GG? He remained as the best defender in baseball (Kevin Kiermaier not withstanding). This while Crawford just had a breakout offensive season...seems very fishy for me. Technically Lindor was the best defensive SS in the AL, but due to weird qualification methodology Escobar is a fine pick regardless. -AL 2B. Um, Altuve is decent but he's nothing special, there were better candidates for the award.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Pillar should have won it for LF based on that catch alone but w/e every year everyone complains about this rinse and repeat...
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Cespedes just put up 11 DRS/15 UZR. What are the objections here?
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Cespedes just put up 11 DRS/15 UZR. What are the objections here? That he gets a Gold Glove by virtue of sectioning off the OF for the awards while Pillar gets shafted despite being only the runner-up elite CF. Also, Cespedes played only two-thirds of the season in an American League outfield.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Cespedes just put up 11 DRS/15 UZR. What are the objections here? Because pillar didn't get one. New rules so I knew he wasn't gonna win. Doesn't change anything. He will win a fielding bible award though
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 What? Rawlings awarded Gold Gloves to undeserving players? Stop the presses!
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 flashback to 2010 when everyone used to bitch when three CF'ers would win awards...which is so much more stupid. There are 3 OF positions...the second best SS is always better than the best 2B, but they don't bump the 2B.
Funky Verified Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 As nice as individual awards are, I am just happy AA tightened up team defence last year w Tulo, Pillar, Donaldson, Martin and even Goins. Of course this is just me basing it off of the ever unpopular eye test but with all our young pitchers, an aging knuckleballer and a park that launches balls and has turf the better defence is needed. It sucks for Pillar he didn't get a glove but I have never had so much fun watching one of our outfielders, the guy is a vacuum. Hope that our new GM, be it LaCava or someone else keeps defence in mind with new player acquisitions. I know Pillar is not the most popular guy around here. Taking in consideration his contract, our already powerful lineup, and the fact he seems to be on an uphill trajectory, I hope he is manning CF next year as he may just get a gold glove in his future. More interested in the team trophy as the rest of you are though.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Jose disagrees or maybe he just proposed

Pillar is a fine player but falling in love with a player in this business is detrimental.
Funky Verified Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Definitely not in love with Pillar. Alomar and Gruber of all people were my all time favorited. Just like the perks Pillar brings at a cheap cost on a team with a possible salary ceiling. Love Bautistas tweet. The guy says what he thinks
