Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Time for the annual Goins discussion. What would he deliver as a full time SS? I voted 1.5 - 2.0 WAR.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Can Goins http://www.toyhalloffame.org/sites/www.toyhalloffame.org/files/toys/square/stick_0.png
Swervin81 Verified Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I'd agree with 1.5-2.0 WAR. Which is a really good bench player. Which is exactly where he should be.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Someone actually voted that he would be an above average regular, lol. E: Figured it was either Flafson or saskjaysfan. derrrrp
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Time for the annual Goins discussion. What would he deliver as a full time SS? I voted 1.5 - 2.0 WAR. Kind of a pointless discussion since he's not starting (barring an injury) and not worth trading as he'll provide more value as insurance that what we'd get back. Theoretically if he started 140 games minimum, he'd be in the 2-2.5 WAR range. Boxcar can lead the laughter, but you already went down this road before, did you not?

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 totally forgot to stick your name in there too. thanks for the correction. No problem. You love taking a beating, eh? I hope to God Tulo or Travis don't suffer a season ending injury in spring training, but it would be hilarious to watch you and your pack get slapped again, but this time at a different level. Funny how the Goins discussion has elevated beyond him sticking to whether or not he'd be a viable starter. Never though this would ever happen, remember?
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Steamer has Goins at 0.3 fWAR over 600 PAs
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Steamer has Goins at 0.3 fWAR over 600 PAs Lol..

Funny how the Goins discussion has elevated beyond him sticking to whether or not he'd be a viable starter. Never though this would ever happen, remember? The odds weren't good, and he has succeeded in being a decent bench player. I'm happy about this. I deal in probablities, not absolutes. Unlike you, apparently. My main goal is that the Jays improve, not about proving some dipshit on the internet wrong all the time. Just because you defied probability and were somewhat correct doesn't mean your opinion at the time was sound or rational.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Steamer has Goins at 0.3 fWAR over 600 PAs ya but those don't take into account that Goins puts his bat on his shoulder now.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 Yay, Gruber is here. Popcorn time!
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Goins had a great year and I can't complain with him. He is however a defensive specialist who will never hit so anything above 1 WAR is a bonus (like Pillar)
nonamejays Verified Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Somewhere +/- 1.0 WAR. Probably somewhere like 0.8 to 1.2.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Entering his age-28 season with a career 1 fWAR/600, and Steamer has him at ~0.6 fWAR/600. I'll say somewhere between 0.5 and 1.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 He will be a good backup infielder and that's all that matters.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 What hast though wrought? It's the silly season
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 It's the silly season Oh it's silly arlight. This thread will probably reach 50 pages.
admin Site Manager Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Oh it's silly arlight. This thread will probably reach 50 pages. I'll take it there. I'll take any bets that averaged over 600 plate appearances it will be greater than 1.5WAR.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 He's s*** a 25th man, who recovers and plays late in ganes or injury, period.
