Splitting the OF into three positions is dumn.

Yes. Casual Jays fans are going to rage over Pillar but it's the fault of that stupid change.

Longo over Donaldson is a bit of an oversight IMO. Moreland overlooked at 1B, as was Chris Davis. Where is Forsythe at 2nd...why am I bothering these don't matter at all.

Yes. Pillar being gamed for being too good to rot in one of the corners.

In the midst of all the AA/Shapiro talk, maybe people missed that the gold glove finalists are out:

3 Jays Buehrle, Martin and obviously Pillar are nominated. I think Pillar has a decent chance of beating Kiermaier, even if he might not deserve to. I haven't seen Kiermaier's highlight reel for the whole season, but haven't seen a player make that many great catches in a long time. His riskiness really paid off this season and it would be nice for him to take home the gold. Not sure about the other two.

Ha that is fair enough. I'd like to see Pillar win, but not a big deal.

Ya...me too....because he is an underdog who doesn't get a ton of notice. But KK is a lock.

Pillar obviously had a fantastic defensive season but it's hard to put him ahead of Kiermaier. It would be nice to see Buehrle win again.

I could see Pillar winning because of the post season exposure. Voters love that s***.

Voting takes place before the playoffs.

Bogaerts got nominated for shortstop? He's an average shortstop if I've ever seen one, poor range with a pretty good arm and glove. Where the hell are Iglesias, Lindor, or Hardy? They contributed far more defensively.

Iglesias...by the metrics had a worse year.

Lindor...not eligible (5 games short)

Hardy...an argument could be made but he was barely eligible and there isn't a huge difference here.

I prefer to look at UZR/150 to determine the actual quality of the defense. The metrics you are using are like using hits to evaluate a hitter instead of batting average.

Bogaerts was a perfectly average 0.9 in 2015 and was well below average in 2014. It's possible that he's not even an average defender, though I won't go that far. He's a very big man and lacks range, but makes up for some of that with a solid arm and footwork. I think he'll be at third base before Sandoval's contract expires to be honest.

Hardy was the best in the league by a significant margin at 10.1 and Iglesias is 4th at 3.1, though his numbers in past years have been much better and I personally think he's an excellent shortstop. I think it's a pretty wide gap between these two and Bogaerts and that it was a big oversight by the voters.

both DRS and UZR rely on hit location data, the difference being the one year +/- system rather than years of data about the difficulty of the play. More often than not they are going to be in agreement with each other. I can understand using UZR/150 but I can also understand giving a nod to a guy that played 160 games, compared to 110. Hardy is the better defender, and if he were there I'd have no issue with Hardy being there. Lindor is the future at AL SS on the defensive side, with the two other great young SS being probably average on the defensive side.
