I think Shapiro needs AA to be back just so he isn't f***ed for the offseason. Once he comes on he has like 5 days to decide on the offseason strategy meanwhile he has no familiarity with anything inside the org. Even just getting acclimated to the business side will be a lot of work but adding in baseball operations is a ton to handle at one time.

I do not know much about Shapiro's ego but I am sure he wants to create a positive impact especially in his first year with the BlueJays. Shapiro does not seem afraid to shy away from looking at big deals and he also see the value behind making team-friendly contract extensions which he has done in the past. Anthopoulos thinks along those same lines as well so hopefully, right off the bat, they share some common ground.

 

Most people can see Anthopoulos' growth as a GM especially since he seems to learn from past decisions. He has confidence in his ability and is not afraid to change his approach when warranted as new information is presented. His philosophy with respect to being open to suggestions and recommendations from all sources should not cause any issues with Shapiro (especially as he most probably will want to have his ideas looked at as well) cuz, bottom line, they both want the same thing - success.

 

As long as Anthopoulos keeps his "bulldog mentality" with respect to trade talks with other GMs (never letting "no" get in the way of a good trade) and keeps performing well, it should be a compatible meeting of minds. Hopefully Anthopoulos' and Shapiro's working relationship can be a close fit.

He probably doesn't have the option of keeping AA around for a year. I think it will be a 3-4 year extension or nothing.

True, a 1-year option does not seem to be a possibility. They most probably have had talks together over the past couple of months while discussing their views and expectations going forward. Anthopoulos is in a good position right now, he loves the organization and the city, so barring any currently unknown financial/FO advancement opportunities he may be interested in pursuing, he is in line for a long-termed contract.

Guy will win exec of the year likely and after the deadline all we heard from GMs around baseball and ex GMs etc was that it was one of the best deadlines they had ever seen period. His stock has risen without a doubt.

 

If he isn't back and we do well next year people will forget about him. If he isn't back and we don't do well Shapiro will pay for that big time as the sheep looking for reasons will point to the magic of AA ignoring everything but 2015.

The Donaldson deal was overwhelmingly impressive however couple that with being able to offload Reyes while strengthening the IF with Tulowitzki (all done quietly) was a monumental, jaw-dropping display of manipulation in my mind.
