I don't mean to derail the thread, but I think that AA and Shapiro being able to coexist depend pretty much on egos and how much control Shapiro has over everyday baseball operations in general. Beeston was pretty much solely on the business side and let AA run the show w.r.t. baseball ops. I'd think AA will want the same autonomy. If Shapiro does want some input on baseball ops, then it'll come down to egos. If both don't have big egos and can put their minds together and agree to being able to work together, then I think this will be a good partnership (AA's style of going for upside/tools and mental makeup (like a scout) and Shapiro's analytics and extreme focus on stats and efficient production) and AA would stay. If either one has a big ego, then we're looking at a disaster.

It's not ego. Shapiro will probably want final say on deals since AA tends to make a few stinkers. He'll probably want the FO to embrace analytics, and bottom line is that he's the boss. Paul Beeston got excited when the Jays got a few black guys to give him a track team, and Shapiro will want pitchers evaluated by FIP/xFIP/SIERA/whatever instead of dumb scouting grades.

I don't know why I laughed at this.

"Yep" at the bottom of my screen, and thought; "Interesting. Cool." Then scrolled down to see "I'm 35." and immediately read it a voice that a little kid with a speech impediment would have. Something similar to Brian Regan. "Oh, I'm 35!"

Uh, no. Good one, though. Doesn't L54 live in the US?

I think Shapiro needs AA to be back just so he isn't f***ed for the offseason. Once he comes on he has like 5 days to decide on the offseason strategy meanwhile he has no familiarity with anything inside the org. Even just getting acclimated to the business side will be a lot of work but adding in baseball operations is a ton to handle at one time.

I'm sure he's been pouring over the roster for months and has an idea about what he wants to accomplish in the offseason. He'd probably promote Tinnish or La Cava on an interim basis to handle a lot of day to day operations and spend a lot of time himself on GM duties this offseason. He has enough experience that I don't think things would collapse if AA walks away.

Sounded like the last part of his time in Cleveland was teaching the ropes to the people who would take over his role in Cleveland. Obvioulsy he is going to keeps tabs in Toronto but if that were the case I doubt it would be easy. If you are going to keep Lacava to be the GM you might as well let AA be the GM for a year and "see how it goes" which usually is the case when a new Pres. comes in anyway.

Sounds like they just have to establish how much autonomy AA has. I can't see him leaving... where would he even go?

He probably doesn't have the option of keeping AA around for a year. I think it will be a 3-4 year extension or nothing.

lol well yeah.. You sign him to an extensions for that many years. If it doesn't work out you just fire him. GM money is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

I can only think of one confirmed female and one confirmed gay.

But other people are saying there are at least three confirmed females.

We also have one Mexican (Angrioter), one geezer (Hurl), one Asian (Boxy), and one Aspergers (Grant).

Pretty sad forum for diversity. I bet 98% of this board is white males below 40.

Raise your hand if you're not a straight white male under 40.

I'm arab so you got one more minority representative lol
