KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 EE is an enigma. Seems like a nice quiet fellow but we don't really know him that well. Barely speaks English, doesn't spend much time around Toronto, virtually invisible in the media. For all we know he's a bigger douche than Bautista so let's not trip over ourselves to praise him for a few platitudes. He seems to have the wisdom to live by the adage "Better to keep quiet and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt".
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Comments in this thread n ext week when it comes out that Edwin wants 6/120. "Edwin is a loser" "Trade him for a prospect now" "Draft pick please!" "He is not worth that"
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 LCBO gives Air Miles don't they.... nice Wish we had that here
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 So easy to get emotional over this at this point, and want one gone and the other to stay based on gut feelings. Shapiro won't be like that or let emotions dictate anything. The deals for either have to make sense on years/needs and $ per performance basis or they just won't happen.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I fell in love a little with EE when he says this....pretty awesome, considering. His English isn't too bad. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/gotta-hear-it-encarnacion-gives-media-his-number/
nmrch Verified Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 It's actually conceivable Edwin would want half the AAV that Bautista wants. which is pretty crazy considering he can legitimately demand more money. He's 2 yrs younger, just as good of a hitter, more durable and the defensive value they provide is a wash.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 ok, since it was brought up, did the LCBO raise its prices fairly recently? I always remember beer being much cheaper in Ontario, but I was looking up keg prices on 'the beer store's website and its actually more expensive than Manitoba. Maybe I just get fooled that its cheaper because you guys do good sales on beer and we rarely do even crappy sales.

Why would he do that if he could help it? Did I miss some interview or something?

How much has Ortiz made, AAV, over the last 4 seasons?

Even with the DH penalty, he has a reasonable case for asking 100/6. And EE isn't just any DH, he is safely one of the 10 best hitters in baseball and at 32 he can demand 5 years at a high AAV or 6/7 years at a lower AAV.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 MASSIVE FACEPALM WTF Gibby

It's probably correct to expect EE to have a lower asking price, but half?
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Maybe we should have put a Cleveland coach in the manager position as well because well.... Gibby

BTS Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 Time to put Gibby out to pasture.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Well I don't like it more than anyone else but I'm assuming we're just talking about a temporary assignment anyways. Basically means they prefer not to mess with the hear of the lineup while Travis is out.

Gibby I read some noise the other day about Francona toying with using Carlos Santana as his #1. Not sure if it was a playful quip or not though.
fireballW Verified Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Saunders will be able to handle it if he is still with the team.
fireballW Verified Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Saunders will OBP over 340
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Saunders vs RHP isn't that dumb but Pillar's skillset is so much better towards the bottom. I wonder if Tulo told him he really doesn't want to hit 1st even though publicly he says he'll do anything.
fireballW Verified Member Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I know because I have him on my fantasy team now.

Basically means they prefer not to mess with the hear of the lineup while Travis is out. This is probably it. The consolation is that, yeah, temporary. Still, this is some really questionable decision making. It's immediately a bad idea and it'll show as soon as #1-hitting Pillar becomes Craig Kimbrel's last victim in a 1-run game.

Gibby said recentky in an interview that he thinks Tulo does not really want to hit first, even though he will do what the team needs. That basically only leaves those two and Martin (not a bad choice) to lead off until Travis is healthy.

Maybe a leadoff platoon with the other guy hitting somewhere in the bottom third of the order?
