Laika Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Morneau actually isn't a bad idea. He's got a very big platoon split (200 points of OPS) over 6000 plate appearances and is a plus defender, much like Smoak. His power has dropped off, but the K's have stayed consistently low. With the injury history, he fits in nice with the Colabello insurance too. this is why I'm a top poster. lots of good ideas up here
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I'm thinking maybe some kind of arrangement like... against LHP Cola 1B, Bautista RF, Pompey LF, EE DH, Revere bench against RHP EE or Bautista 1B, Pompey RF, Revere LF, EE or Bautista DH, Cola bench Daric Barton at AAA for depth. Daric Barton had to retire. Did the splits in AAA this year stretching for a ball and tore all of his ham strings. Legend is he's still stuck like that.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Estrada will become a free agent when the world series is over, no extensions to talk about. He's free and clear to talk to anyone he wants plus he'll be stupid to turn down any offer that beats the jays I meant resign Estrada long term, around 3 years

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 are there any big pitchers coming out of Japan this offseason?

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Saunders and Thole non-tendered? Saunders is a one kneed accident waiting to happen. Let him go. I'd be moving Jose to First, OF of Saunders, Pompey and Pillar. Thole is a one trick pony. "IF" dickey is kept they need to look to someone else to catch him. 2+ WAR for the price of Dicky is cheap if he is second half Dickey. If he is first half Dickey it's a waste of money.
DonnysManbun Verified Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Barring a complete nightmare offseason I don't see how we aren't favourites to win the AL next year. Cant wait for April
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Barring a complete nightmare offseason I don't see how we aren't favourites to win the AL next year. Cant wait for April Playoffs are a crapshoot. I think well probably be AL East favorites though and that's good enough for me.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Barring a complete nightmare offseason I don't see how we aren't favourites to win the AL next year. Cant wait for April We have a good base but lots of pitching holes again and our competition will retool. Injuries etc etc. We are no lock and after 22 years waiting I realize how precious each shot is and it cant be wasted. (not that I think we did this year). Just ask the Nationals.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Barring a complete nightmare offseason I don't see how we aren't favourites to win the AL next year. Cant wait for April Will likely be AL East favourites. A bit scary with the team's 5 best players into their 30s, but they should be good.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Why? Because he's been solid. We're losing Buehrle and Price out the rotation, why not stabilize him if AA can get him on a team friendly contract like he's done with EE and Bautista in the past? If he can preform anywhere near this year it would be great, but I wouldn't rely on him as a front of the line pitcher, but more of a back end stabilizer. With Marcus heading the rotation and Marco + Dickey rounding it out, we'd have to fill in with 2 great starters and we'd be set. Unless we really want to experiment with Osuna/Sanchez. We have Hutchison too, but we need more reliable options at this point.

DonnysManbun Verified Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I can't imagine ee or bats getting dealt but who knows. The core is Joshy, tulo, pillar, Travis and Martin now in my estimation.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I'm gonna throw a name out there for buy low target: Denard Span. Is he better than Revere or Pompey? Perhaps, but I'm not interested if his salary costs us a pitching upgrade.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Donaldson was a smart trade at the time. Dickey trade was not. Guess you didn't see it that way. Obviously. Doubt you'd get the same response from A's fans though.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Is he better than Revere or Pompey? Perhaps, but I'm not interested if his salary costs us a pitching upgrade. Agreed. We should go with Pompey in the OF unless we can't get good enough value for Revere on the market. Then Revere would start. No need to go for a guy like Span, unless we're moving Bautista to 1B and EE to DH permanently.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Donaldson was a smart trade at the time. Dickey trade was not. Guess you didn't see it that way. There is forum proof to back this lol. 90% of the board was against the Dickey trade when it was just TDA for Dickey, let alone TDA + Syndr for Dickey.

EE should be the permanent DH already. he was s*** offensively while he had to play first.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) I'm gonna throw a name out there for buy low target: Denard Span. Love it. His Steamer projection is weirdly low, don't trust it at all. wRC+ for the last three years 120, 117, 96. 60/30/10 seems to be how they're doing the weighting. Even then, that's a 2-2.5 win player, at least. Edited October 24, 2015 by GD

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 There are two camps with Goins. One camp that believes he can be something and another camp that doesn't. I am in the camp that doesn't, however I also admit I never saw a 1.5 WAR season from him either. I think he can provide value to a team looking for a 2B/SS stopgap/solution. Selling him at the height of his value is ideal otherwise we'll have another situation of Cliff Pennington, a 2B that provided value but was ultimately a backup. The biggest strength Goins brings is his defense. Goins has always rated positively but so has Pennington. You may miss a few DRS here and there but overall you are getting a positive rated Def player at 2B/SS. Previous to this year, Pennington actually ranked ahead of Goins in terms of Def. In regards to offense neither are league average hitters. You aren't buying them for their bat and counting on them to provide offense is silly. However with this lineup, if Travis goes down or anyone needs a rest, their bat shouldn't be the reason this team wins or looses a game. Overall I just see the same Goins-value like player you'd get out of Barney and Pennington. Unless you feel differently? Would love to hear why people would be pro-Goins aside from Gruber and LTBF. Why another team would want to take Goins after what I've said is if they are in the camp that thinks he can provide something. I am sure his "breakout" year has many curious and if we didn't have Travis then I wouldn't advocate trading him. But the Jays do have a 2B that is better. There is a third camp that thinks Goins is an acceptable back up MIF. He doesn't have to be something or not. He's an acceptable option to have as your 25th guy to back up both Tulo and Travis. He's a better defender than both Pennington and Barney, and I don't know if either of them can play SS moving forward.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Seems no one is talking about the estimated payroll? Am I the only one who thinks the team should get a big bump in that department to the $160-170 range? The US dollar hurts but Rogers/Sportsnet probably made close to $100 million extra this year. That TV contract alone has to be worth $150 million on the open market with the ratings the Jays get.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Could you imagine if the Jays didn't trade perennial All-Star Robinson Diaz for that journeyman from Pittsburgh? Oh how things could have been. Ugh. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-pirates-plunder-toronto/
