Plat Verified Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I know the series is not over yet, but KC has pretty much dominated the Jays for most the series. Looking at the bright side though, they are getting some nice postseason experience and the window should be open for quite a few years after this year. What are some realistic moves AA can make next year to give them a better edge if they make the postseason again next year (which they should...hopefully). They cant really depend on prospects stepping up since they traded away most of the top half of the farm this year. Will the first and most appropriate move be firing Gibbons?
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Pitching and a less retarded manager, the lineup is set more or less.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 It would be painful to have to decide between Bautista and Encarnacion but it might be a good idea in terms of roster construction.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 AA thinks Gibbons is great. Hopefully, the spotlight on his egregious post-season management will disillusion him. Unfortunately, managers that make it to the post-season rarely get fired. As for 'putting us over the top', we're going to have our hands full just getting back to where we are. In case you haven't noticed, we're going to be short a few starters next season. And after 2016, we lose EE and Joey Bats, so it's going to be a lot more difficult.

Have to also look at the fact that Boston is almost certainly going to be a lot better next year (or if the second half of their season was any indication).

Disagree Yes we are short a few starters but this is a playoff team even without price. Tulo is going to be back healthy and this is the best lineup in baseball Yes we need pitchers but I am confident AA can get an arm or two in the offseason
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I would put both Osuna and Sanchez in the rotation and go and get another SP that's a front of the rotation guy So our rotation wyld be Stroman New SP Dickey Osuna Sanchez With the relievers I would resign Lowe and have a relief core around Cecil Lowe and Hendrik's
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I don't really believe in 'putting a team over the top'. This team is good enough to win a WS. The question should be 'what is needed to get this team back in the playoffs for another kick at the can?'. IMO the answer is two reliable starting pitchers and prayers that the baseball gods continue not to hit the team's vets with attrition.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 1. A couple of starters (not including Osuna moving to the rotation) 2. Bullpen depth 3. Back up catcher Stay healthy again.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 A proven, playoff-tested manager like Ned Yost.

Most of the time you need multiple cracks at the post season to win.

BTS Community Moderator Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 according to Blair we're very interested in Doug Fister Eww, why?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Eww, why? Because even after a playoff run, the team might not have the luxury to be too choosy about it's pitching targets.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 1. 2 starters 2. bullpen 3. backup catcher/other bench pieces.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 It would be painful to have to decide between Bautista and Encarnacion but it might be a good idea in terms of roster construction. That's the most foolish thing we could do in my opinion. There is a place for them in the lineup, there is a place for them in the payroll, and they aren't needed as trade fodder.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I honestly think this is going to be the most exciting offseason ever based on where we are what we have and where we are going Not to mention the GM.is a FA

There is a place for them in the lineup, there is a place for them in the payroll, and they aren't needed as trade fodder. The problem is that there's probably not room for both payroll-wise in 2017. It could definitely make sense to move one this offseason.
Treeplant Verified Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 There's not much needed to put the team over the top versus what we see here other than perhaps boosting our bullpen. This is a World Series caliber team whether we actually make it there or not. These are the breaks we face. Price hasn't been his regular season self. Dickey gave us 1/2 good starts (and even today's game wasn't out of hand until the bizarre Hawkins/Tepara thing happened). We lost Cecil to a fluke tear. Loup has been gone with personal issues. Bats have gone a bit colder than expected, but still not that bad. Estrada and Stroman have given us enough. Taken as a whole, our big 3 have produced.

I'm starting to side with the Bautista should play less outfield crowd (but I'm not in the Bautista should play 1B crowd).
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Jason Heyward, Corey Kluber, and Jeff Samardzija
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Jason Heyward, Corey Kluber, and Jeff Samardzija OH THAT'S ALL? cf
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Jason Heyward, Corey Kluber, and Jeff Samardzija Easy enough!
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 A proven, playoff-tested manager like Ned Yost. Well I don't think Yost would be available. Listening to Harold Reynolds on the broadcasts, it sounds like he understand the Royals strategies.... Do you think Reynolds would be interested in managing??
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 One of the Cleveland arms if possible for sure. Otherwise, like others have said, a couple of solid 2-4 guys will suffice.

I'm starting to side with the Bautista should play less outfield crowd (but I'm not in the Bautista should play 1B crowd). Is it because first is harder then it looks and Bautista might tank defensively there too?? Or you just want Bautista i the infield??
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Does anyone really think Bautista or EE would waive their 10/5 rights to be moved? I think both of them would tell Shapiro/AA to kick rocks.
