Would anybody else be shocked to learn that the Royals were a below average baserunning team this year (-0.4 runs)? I knew we were up there (5th place), but with all of the narratives going into this series, I expected them to a lot better.

without false narratives there wouldn't be much to talk about.

Above average baserunners for the Royals:

1. Jarrod Dyson (6.3 BsR) - Somehow not in the lineup

2. Lorenzo Cain (6.2) - Expected

3. Alcides Escobar (4.4) - Horrible bat, though

4. Eric Hosmer (3.1) - Good bat, surprisingly good baserunner

5. Paulo Orlando (1.7) - 4th outfielder

6. Alex Rios (1.3) - Expected; somehow starting over Dyson

7. Terrance Gore (0.6) - In NINE games

8. Ben Zobrist (0.1) - Better known for his bat than speed, but okay

Moose (-5.4), Perez (-6.7), and Morales (-8.2) are all likely base cloggers.

For the Jays:

1. Kevin Pillar (8.1)

2. Ben Revere (8.0)

3. Josh Donaldson (4.0)

4. Ezequiel Carrera (2.8)

5. Jose Bautista (2.3)

6. Ryan Goins (1.7)

7. Dalton Pompey (1.6)

Base cloggers include: Edwin Encarnacion (-2.2), Dioner Navarro (-1.5), Justin Smoak (-3.7), and Russell Martin (-4.6)

Official report had that as the air time, not game time

ok... I'll be trying to find pregame soon. it's the one thing that I hate about mlb.tv. really nice with pre and post game information and MLB.tv gives you none of it.

Colabello over Smoak is interesting.

No idea what Gibby is thinking on it, but Volquez has thrown a lot of high quality off-speed stuff this year. Probably not a good matchup for Smoak atm.

If you find a decent pregame please let me know. I'm also on MLB.tv and without cable.

That does surprise me.

Navarro should never ever be starting over Martin in the post season

Is this punishment to Martin for the last game?

They like to pair Navarro with Estrada.

I'm not crazy about it but at least Gibby is consistent. And if Navvy is the incremental difference that allows Estrada to pitch like he did last game I guess we can live with the loss in D and offense.

Some say the Batista Bat Flip was less than professional but that would be a very emotional and ignorant observation. The truth of the matter is that every athlete in the modern era has made a similiar statement at the pinnacle of greatness. Ali standing over Joe Fraser, Jordon and his exagerated follow throughs , Tiger's fist pump and the Babe pointing to the home run bleachers to name just a few...Batista joined that legacy. He put his stamp on a defining moment. When he retires and the world looks back, most will recognize same and embrace it for what it was.....for the rest of us, we are enjoying it now and forever!
