gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Carrasco is a lot more valuable than Edwin. It isn't even close. Really? EE has averaged a 4.1 WAR over the past four seasons with a 150 wRC+ average in that span and has 3-4 solid seasons left, especially when utilized as a DH. His 2016 contract is a steal and Cleveland shouldn't have a problem extending him. EE would give Cleveland that huge power threat in the middle of their line up that they desperately need. Carrasco is 29 years old and has just recently hit his stride, although he's basically controllable through 2018 (averaging roughly $6mil per) with $9mil options after that. The Jays may have to throw in a controllable SP like a SRF or / and Greene / Harris. IMO, EE is more of a proven commodity as of right now.

I'm not sure why you think Cleveland would easily extend him. Cleveland the city sucks and they don't have a high payroll. It would most likely be 1 bargain year of Edwin for five bargain years of Carrasco. The framework doesn't work at all IMO.

Santana comes off the books at the end of 2016 and i seriously doubt they pick up his $12mil team option, his defense sucks and he will not be their DH moving forward. They need a big bat like EE's and bats like his don't come cheap, unless there is a stud prospect they have that can give them some cheap offense.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 EE's contract comes off the books at the end of 2016 too! And Carlos Santana is a fine defender at first. This framework makes no sense for the Indians. My point is the Indians can shed salary if they are serious about extending EE. Carlos Santana is a liability defensively, but if you think his 110 wRC+ at 1B counteracts that, then all the power to you.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 With Jose & Edwin being 10/5 guys. What's the chance either of them waive that to be dealt from a team/lineup as loaded as they're in? Slim and none.
OBPlover Verified Member Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I think the most likely pitcher for Cleveland to trade is actually Corey Kluber. I think Cleveland's management is dumb enough to put some stock in his horrible Won-Loss record. Plus he's age 29. His contract isn't bad but it's a lot more expensive than the other young guns.

Cleveland's management isn't dumb. And NO team would trade Kluber, not even Amaro Jr would do that.
