King Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 KING Are these two players the jays signed on wednesday Pedro Ventura and Anthony Rodriguez here for good or just until the end of the dsl season. Are a little old but down there. Hi Todd. Seeing as they are 21 and 22 year olds in the DSL, I would say that they are only here as injury/call up fill ins for the remainder of the season. Hiraldo was recently promoted to the GCL and maybe they needed infield depth.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2018 Author Posted August 16, 2018 Hi Todd and King, Where do babies come from?

Ray Verified Member Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 Lazaro Estrada today: 6IP 3H 1ER 1BB 10K. Drops his season ERA to 1.94 Anyone got a scouting report on this kid? He's 19 in the DSL so a bit older for the level. 5'10 and 180 lbs. He's dealing this season so far though.
GoldBull Verified Member Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 Wow! Just saw what Bryse Wilson did last night. Dude went 8IP of 1 hit ball, struck out 13 and walked nobody ... as a 20 y/o in AAA. What a stud.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Biggio has hit 2 more home runs tonight
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Biggio with 26 HR's on the year. Outside shot of 30 home runs and 100 walks (most likely will fall short though). Man he became a prospect and real interesting player overnight. High performance department legit.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Kids, here you can see some real big league swing mechanics and easy plus power. The weight transfer and bat path are fantastic. He looks like Cody f***ing Bellinger. I'm all in on Biggio now.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Looks like a 30% K rate in the majors.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Looks like a 30% K rate in the majors. His OBP is also .397

Late bloomer that's still blooming, going to be interesting.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Looks like a 30% K rate in the majors. He has a particular JPA vibe to him but with a walk rate...... I am not sure what to make of it. Seems to be a lot of holes in his swing but can lay off pitches.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 I do like Biggio's swing. Simple, yet powerful. Have there been any reports on his defense improving? Is he still fringe at 2nd and 3rd? I still think he ends up like Kelly Johnson.

Seems to be a lot of holes in his swing but can lay off pitches. You can kind of form a stat-scout opinion of a player's profile based on their combination of three things: BB%, K%, and Power. High Power with High K% and Low BB% = probably a HACKER (JPA, Teoscar, etc.); probably won't work in MLB long-term. High BB% with Normal/High K% and Low Power = maybe a good eye, but possibly too passive OR no real pop; won't really work in MLB long-term. Low/Normal BB%, Low/Normal K%, Low Power = probably a HACKER MIF type with good contact skills but no pop; could work if they have defensive value. Kevin Pillar type hitters. High Power, High K%, High BB% = maybe a good eye and the K% is a calculated part of the approach to hit for power? This profile seems to work out a lot more often than people realize, these days. This is Biggio. High Power, Low K%, High BB% = uber-prospect. Bet everything on them (Vlad!) And of course there is everything in between and an infinite number of actual profiles...

Biggio has walked more this year in AA than JPA walked in his entire major league career...

The levels that people will go to to convince themselves that Biggio isn't good is getting pretty ridiculous. High power, high walk, high strikeout guys absolutely work in the MLB. To compare a guy who has historically shown an elite ability to get on base (it was his only plus tool prior to his power surge) to f***ing JP Arencibia is mind blowingly stupid analysis. Arencibia had a career 4.8% walk rate in the minors, worse than Kevin Pillar: the guy who can go on month long stretches wherein he doesn't draw a walk.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Groshans promoted to Bluefield today.

I think he's approaching Bichette status...maybe even better.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 I think he's approaching Bichette status...maybe even better. Bichette is 3 years younger and by all accounts is a legitimate shortstop. I'm excited about Biggio as well but value wise they are several tiers apart.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2018 Author Posted August 17, 2018 Agreed, but he's underrated. He's on everyone's radar now, but I think many want to see this for more than just one season before moving him into the top 5
