Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Don't look now but Mitch White hasn't been complete dog s*** in AAA recently. 7 innings of 1 run ball tonight struck 7 and walked 2. Only allowed 2 hits as well.

One of my favorite prospects in our system. The real exciting thing about Palmegiani is his rapid rate of improvement given how raw he still is. He was playing baseball in Alberta farm towns till the end of high school, after which is transferred to a junior college in the States. So he wasn’t exactly playing great competition even by draft prospect standards, and he’s done nothing short of rake since he joined the Jays org. The physical tools are great, but what’s more exciting is potentially how much better he can become the more he plays, because relative to his peers, he’s still quite raw.

A little dramatic on his High School situation. He was recruited out of Venezuela to play at Vauxhall academy, who play at every major tournament in Canada as well as winning the Bishop Gorman tourney in Vegas once
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 Palmegiani looks pretty yoked but a lot of his HR videos are kind of wall scrapers I'd love to see his statcast data. What is the MaxEV? Also, how is the defense? Is he an infield prospect or an "infield prospect" like Davis Schneider?

The amateur ball around here has taken massive leaps in the last 20 years

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 All over Canada. True, I just meant specific to Southern Alberta where it's gone from virtually nothing to having 2 pretty decent collegiate level leagues in the last 25~ years
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 Thanks for that. The amateur ball around here has taken massive leaps in the last 20 years Also everyone in Okotoks plays ball. Despite no longer being on the board, I still follow the WCBL, love that a few of the top high school guys got gigs this this year

Sorrow Verified Member Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Now up to .278 .353 .535 in Buffalo. Good for a 114 wRC+. The offensive environment in AAA must be crazy this year.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Exciting times ahead awaiting the arrival of flawed top 75 prospects just like the good ol days
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Good for a 114 wRC+. The offensive environment in AAA must be crazy this year. Yes it is. I guess because of the automated strike zone which makes everything really hard to understand just using previous knowledge of how to judge triple a stats.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Exciting times ahead awaiting the arrival of flawed top 75 prospects just like the good ol days Jays need to have some of these guys surprise to the upside like Teoscar Hernandez did. At least they have multiple 'interesting' prospects knocking on the door (Schneider, Orelvis, Palmegiani, Roden, Howritz, Barger, Jiminez). Multiple kicks at the can at least. After Guerrero and Kirk surprising to the low side, fans deserve someone surprising to the high side.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 MLB set a record this year on top 100 spects debuting... there reason isn't the new CBA just better baseball development. If true this is huge for baseball...
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 I dunno. I would just guess that with the march of statistics and data the prospect ranker people are just getting a bit better over time. Like, these upper/mid minors players with strong stats are more likely to make lists now, rather than the 17 year olds with big muscles.

I assume we read a better piece in this regard, soon whether how quick elite players are getting there, they're far more aggressive. I like the topic.

Teams for the most part are no longer making players go level by level Like if these guys are in A+ or AA and they are ticking the boxes for exit velo, pitch velo, barrel rate, etc. they are getting called up

But if they're elite why not, that's changed aggressively.
