I’m just going off fangraphs. They have him listed as dec 22. It is possible they are wrong. From your explanation it seems they must be.

Martinez was signed in 2018, so I think he is R5 eligible before 2023. That's the 5th year.

 

So Fangraphs is right I think.

Rule 5 is going to be VERY interesting this off-season. Just looking at roster resource there’s going to be some interesting decisions.

 

One guy that popped out is Zulueta. It just adds to my belief that he gets pushed and ends up as a long man/relief in our pen this year or maybe a back end starter if performs ok up the levels. We have a need there and he needs to be protected this off-season anyway.

Are you absolutely sure? Because I don’t think they would have protected Jiminez if they didn’t have to last year.

 

Edit: I think ‘eligible means they are eligible because they were already eligible for previous drafts. For example, Samad Taylor is also ‘eligible’ and we know he was eligible for the 2021 draft that was cancelled.

They might list players who continue to be eligible as just "eligible"

 

but for upcoming first timers I think they put the year they will first be eligible

Yea, Samad Taylor is ‘eligible’ on his profile and we know he was eligible for the previous draft.

Signed: July 2nd Period, 2018 from Venezuela (TOR)

 

Martinez has a well-rounded offensive package: adequate bat speed, mature swing decisions, and a good-looking cut. He’s likely a corner outfielder, which means it’d be helpful if one of his offensive tools becomes plus. He’s not especially projectable, so it will likely need to be the hit tool and/or approach, rather than raw power growth, that carries him. His 40-man roster timeline (Martinez is a 2022 add) makes that tenuous, though the scouts we spoke to who saw Martinez on the complex do like him.

Nice to see this front office deliver on the promise of having a consistently good farm system. We're not like the White Sox, who tore it down, built up their farm, and once they graduated all their top prospects, they had nobody of note anymore. We're seeing the effects of that right now. They have zero depth to go if anyone is injured.

 

On the other hand, we've graduated Vlad, Bo, Jansen, Teoscar, Manoah in recent years and still have a lot of players to be excited about (mostly on the pitching side, which is awesome). Don't forget, we also have a large draft pool and extra picks due to Robbie Ray and Semien leaving. Another big reload coming!

Frasso hasn’t pitched a ton. I hope Zulueta gets pushed up soon. If he does well in double A, he might solve our long man/back end starter problem in the majors. Or just be bullpen swing and miss.

I've watched a fair bit of Vancouver Canadians live this year, and they make the Orioles defence at the peak of their rebuild look elite. They are really, really bad. I don't like looking at ERA for minor league pitchers anyways because of bad defenses, but that goes double for the C's.
