I get the Kirk Martinez comparison but donÂ’t see Moreno Martinez.

Honestly who knows. It really sucks that Moreno only played 33 games this year, hopefully he gets 10 more since he is apparently getting healthy.

From what we saw Moreno was a great right handed hitter, high average, power and improved walk rate, but only 33 games. Physically he's probably more like Martinez then Kirk....

If his 33 games this year was accurate he'd be projected as a killer right handed hitter too... however maybe the numbers would of regressed significantly... even harder to know because of the missing 2020 season.

Others know more than I do, I just stat-scout and with injuries plus missing 2020 I might be getting fooled by small sample sizes.

Okay I see. I saw Martinez play 3b years ago. He was not athletic. I’m still thinking Kirk will end up as a DH because of his lack of mobility but I hadn’t heard of Moreno in that context.

If Vladdy can shed weight, why can't Kirk? He could stand to lose 60-80 lbs. What kind of training staff are we employing?

You can lead a fatty to salad, you can't make him eat it.

Who said Kirk can't lose weight?

Anyone can lose weight and build lean muscle with the right plan. Genetics will always play a role. But people who easily put on fat actually have an advantage in the gym if they apply themselves.

At the end of the day its his choice. Personally if I was a professional athlete I would want to maximize my career.

Yup. It's all about the mindset and getting the proper motivation. But I will say from experience, getting that proper motivation is not easy to come by for many.

Not even about eating salad, just eat less and workout

Figure of speech. I'm down 123 pounds, so I'm qualified to talk about fatties.

Can you elaborate on this? I’ve always been fat and i am wondering what advantage I might have lol

Your body is good at storing mass. You've just been feeding it Doritos instead of protein and muscle stimulation.

(You probably don't have any advantages when it comes to cardio, lol)

You can convert that fat to muscle with hard work. Its actually difficult for a lot of people to put on size and weight. You already have it. You just need to build it back up as muscle instead of fat. But people that go to the gym get frustrated when they don’t see results after a month. If you stay consistent with a full body lifting program and you stay in small calorie deficit you will see fantastic results at the 3-5 month range. And good diet enhances this progress. Cut out the s***** carbs. Eat a lot more protein. 0.8g per 1 pound of body weight.

The most important thing is to never starve yourself. If you want to lose weight. You need to eat more not less. Eat more and more often. But make better eating choices. You can absolutely eat takeout a couple times a week and drink if you maintain a healthy diet. Its actually good for your body and your mind to throw it curveballs. Had to fit in a Baseball reference lol.

Cardio isn't the best way to lose weight in any case. Lean muscle building is far more beneficial. Adding lean muscle and doing high intensity short workouts are shown to boost your resting metabolic rate far better than cardio, and boosting the resting matabolic rate is mucho bueno for weight loss.

Essentially, unless you're training to become a marathon runner or some other thing that requires excellent cardio, it's not that useful. Yes, you will lose some weight doing nothing but cardio, but eventually your resting metabolic rate keeps slowing down and you see very diminished results.

Walking is enough cardio for most people. 12k steps is great goal. If you have a job that requires you to be on your feet this shouldn’t be difficult goal to achieve. Most importantly you just need to get moving daily. Get your heart rate elevated for a good 15-20 mins. Which can be done with a well paced walk.

If you don’t like running or jogging now you’re never going to like it lol. It will absolutely help you shed body fat but it won’t do anything for you unless your diet is really good. And the most effective way to burn fat will always be putting on more muscle. Muscle is the ultimate fat burner. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn as well. Even when resting.

The only advantage they have is if they want to be an NFL lineman or something.

Simeon Woods-Richardson tonight:

1.2 IP, 3 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 2 K

Yikes.

He's pitched just 3 innings since being traded, and he has 6 walks. If he's not hurt, he looks like he's fallen apart.

Orelvis still not playing. No injury update or anything. Maybe COVID related?

That or maybe he reached a limit that they wanted him to play this year after last season basically off. Also might do the Arizona Fall league, so getting a break now

The problem with starving yourself, aside from the obvious, is that your body becomes more efficient at storing calories as fat rather than burning it is as fuel since it does not know when it is going to get its next meal. That being said, I have personally had alot of success with intermittent fasting and even eating one large meal a day.

Intermittent fasting is the easiest way to limit total calorie consumption, for most people. It's also a good sort of cold-turkey method to break habits like snack addiction. I feel like our bodies are sort of meant or designed to go without food for certain periods of time; I always feel a lot of mental clarity when I do something like time restricted eating.

Cardio can be great solely because it's probably the easiest form of physical activity to get into and form habits. All you need is a pair of shoes.

Alejandro Kirk if you are reading this, do whatever it is that you can stick to, man.

I should clarify when I said never starve yourself. I was referring more to the people who skip meals and don’t eat enough at any point during the day.

Intermittent fasting is option for some people. I personally am not a fan of it. And I also wouldn’t recommend it on a weight lighting program. If your goal is just to lose weight it could be effective for you. Its also much easier time wise if you’re someone who doesn’t have time to eat multiple times a day. But you still have to workout and exercise to see the results you want. I personally don’t like working out on empty but that’s just me.

So related to what you are saying, I personally find in the month of Ramadan that my mental acuity is at it's peak. To use an example, when I play baseball in Ramadan I find that I am more dialed in on pitch locations and making contact. I once read an evolutionary theory for this. In a hunter gatherer society a hunter who was hungry would have to be more focused because if they failed to hunt food in that state they would die. Conversely a hunter with a full belly had less on the line and thus would presumably fare worse.
