Laika Community Moderator Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 8 Blue Jays in Baseball America's top 83 prospects, crazy. Moreno now sits at 36(previously at 94) Insane. To have a competitive team with players like Vlad and Bo, on top of that farm... I mean they better not f*** this all up somehow!

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 Patrick Murphy with a solid 2IP 0H 0ER 3K, hopefully signs he can get back to the pen soon.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 I wonder if they will change course with Hatch now. The plan was to stretch him out as a starter, but the bullpen is in shambles and the Jays rotation is actually looking fairly solid lately with Ryu/Ray/Matz/Stripling/Manoah all putting together decent quality starts for the most part the last few times thru. Maybe they shift Hatch back to the pen when he's ready?
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 Too early to call it a logjam since McGuire and Jansen suck and kind of suck. Adams is a bit of a longshot prospect. I do agree with you though that it makes sense to give some of these guys reps at other positions, in case several work out and trades just don't materialize. Adams and Moreno might be able to handle 3B and 1B, I dunno. But Adams is very likely to not hit enough for his bat to play anywhere but C - he's probably a JPA type hitter if he works out. Kirk will get DH reps obviously. I think the catching tandem in 2023 will more likely that anything be Moreno and Kirk. I was thinking about this with Moreno the other day actually. Not sure when he last played SS but when he was signed he was primarily a SS that the Jays shifted to Catcher. If he's the best of the bunch preferably you'd want that bat at catcher as it's generally the weakest hitting position but if he could be passable at 3rd you could reasonably roster all 3 of Jansen/Kirk/Moreno and get Kirk time at DH and Moreno time at 3B and reasonably get 2 of the 3 in the lineup every day. Moreno could get 130 games, Kirk 110, and Jansen 84. Quite strange to be thinking about how to get all your catchers bats into the lineup when often times it's the black hole in the 9 spot but pie in the sky scenarios the Jays could be unbeliveable deep back there. I don't think they'd go that route. Catcher/3B would be a weird combo of positions to play and ideally you want a guy to fully work on the catching position rather than distracting him with trying to figure out 3rd base, but something that could be possible down the line I suppose.

Maybe they shift Hatch back to the pen when he's ready? I doubt it. The rotation is good for now, but health has been a huge concern at all positions this year and there's essentially nothing we have any confidence behind those 5 if someone gets hurt. You move Hatch to the pen and someone goes down long term and you're looking at either using Kay or trying to see if Pearson has it figured out again. I think they want to leave Pearson down there for an extended period and not have this yo-yo thing continue, and I don't see any confidence in Kay from anyone in the organization right now with how reluctant they were to use him when they only had 2 healthy starters. I think they want that 6th guy with options down there they can rely on if they need him and I think they really like Hatch and he's that guy. Is that the right call when our pen has been lighting wins on fire recently? Not sure a theoretical bigger need is worth more than a current smaller need but I can see both sides of that coin. Hatch is used to starting and eventually I think that's where he'll be long term. I think you'd see both Kay or Pearson up in that role before you would with Hatch if the pen issues got really bad(feels like we might already be there)
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 I have been really enjoying watching the progress of so many of the Jay's draftees and international signings that I will have mixed feelings if they are traded. I mean, I get the need to use unproven assets to trade for proven talent that helps the major league roster, but after watching a player move up the system for multiple years it is kinda weird to see them on another team. A player like Miguel Castro is what I am referring to.

He's been solid the past 2 years. I would take him on my team any day.

Remember when we broke camp with him and Osuna. Would i rather have Carl Williams or Castro? Not a hard choice.

Like, I'd take him over Jeremy Beasley or Carl Edwards Jr., but he's walked almost 5/9 in that time frame, so he's not some kind of major upgrade over which I'm losing any sleep.

Lol he would be closing or setting up in Toronto right now. Massive projected upgrade on whoever their worst reliever is
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 Really, the Jays don't even need to be targetting MLB relievers. The best depth reliever on virtually every team's AAA roster is better than what the jays are trotting out there regularly in the 8th.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 About an hour after going 1-for-3 for High-A West Michigan, the Tigers announced Spencer Torkelson has been promoted to Double-A Erie. With an off-day Monday, his first opportunity to don the SeaWolves uniform will come Tuesday against Altoona. Torkelson torched High-A Central pitching in June, hitting .439 with 12 extra-base hits, 11 RBIs and got on base in more than half his plate appearances. Tigers No.4 prospect Dillon Dingler will join Tork in Erie as well.

I think I could’ve done better though
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Stat guy for the win...lol. My point was he was an unproven asset that was easy to root for and has established himself as a solid major leaguer. Those are the type of players that make me enjoy tracking our minor league talent.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 The start to Zac Veen's professional career has been interesting. No power (.101 ISO, 0 HRs) Tons of walks (17.1 BB%) Tons of strikeouts (27.6 K%) and a f*** ton of speed....20 stolen bases in 34 games

Ray Verified Member Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 Sem Robberse has a 2.51 FIP and 2.16 xFIP in A-ball so far. His ERA is inflated due to one rocky outing, but he's been great since. He has a 14.5 K/9! Nick Frasso and Roither Hernandez have done well in Dunedin so far too. Paxton Schultz (guy we got back in the Derek Fisher trade), Nick Fraze, Brandon Eisert, & Hagen Danner are pitchers to watch in High-A. Zach Logue has a 3.63 FIP & 2.86 xFIP in AA to go with a 12.9 K/9 and a miniscule BB%.

There's no shortage of good pen options in AAA if we really want to go in-house. Namely: * Kirby Snead * Taylor Saucedo * Conner Overton * Hobie Harris * Bryan Baker These are all guys having a ton of success out of the bullpen in AAA. I would go with any of these guys and see what we have in Logue as a starter.

BTS Community Moderator Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 I wonder what the Rays are waiting on with Wander Franco now that they have their year of control and Super 2 has passed.

Kelenic had an identical wRC+ prior to his call up(and a higher OPS) to what Wander Franco currently has. We all know how Kelenic's debut went, and he's now struggling in the minors.

Not on the 40. Maybe some asset hoarding going on, waiting for value trade(s) to materialize. They have an obvious sell high on their roster in Joey Wendle and it feels like Yandy Diaz could be given up on at this point (traded, not cut; breakout never going to happen). Vidal Brujan might come up before Franco.
