Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 You think they're going to hold him down until mid April? Misread what he wrote. It happens.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 Biggio has 6 games at 1B, 8 games 2B so far this season. 12 games corner OF AFL. 38 games 3B last season. Nice flexibility.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 If this team is worried about service time manipulation with Cavan Biggio, be it years of control or super 2, we should all pack it in because this is a mickey mouse org. I'm pretty sure we'll see Biggio in May. He's only played 16 games above AA. Keeping him down half the season isn't at all unreasonable, even if he's killing it.

Keeping him down half the season isn't at all unreasonable, even if he's killing it. there was no reason to keep him down in AA all last year. He is an older player and if he's earned an early call up and get's super 2 and a few extra bucks, sometimes it's good to do the right thing for the player. If he's killing it and would perform better at the big league level than Drury, why would you keep him in the minors?
jmomcc Verified Member Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 A ton, eh Well, yea. Most of them. Edit: McKinney, Drury, Tellex, Brito, Gurriel (when he comes back) and even Teoscar. They all play the spots Biggio plays.. I'd rather they get enough PAs to make a decision on what they are. Especially, the first three. Teoscar is on the roster next year for sure anyway but I'd also like to see him get as many PAs as possible.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 When is he Super 2? it varies, but if we hold him down for 65ish service days he will not get super 2 status and we will only have to pay him 3 years of arbitration. I would argue that if he's killing it over the next 3 weeks and we still have guys floundering at the big league level that he should be brought up and get a few extra bucks.

If he's killing it and would perform better at the big league level than Drury, why would you keep him in the minors? Because three weeks is a very small sample size. Half a year is perfectly reasonable to have a player at any given level even if they're killing it (probably on the low side). It would be different if he was at AAA a good portion of last year.

I don't have a problem with them keeping him down. I have a problem with them keeping him down to save a few bucks by preventing him from getting super2 status.
jmomcc Verified Member Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 Socrates Brito won't be blocking anyone I don’t think it’s the same thing as blocking someone. Blocking someone kind of indicates that they have something locked down. They are auditioning.

Not really worried about finding out how good of a bench player they are. Plus, almost all those guys aren't really young.

jmomcc Verified Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Alford has 3 walks today which could be the start of a turnaround, lol. Also, Kevin smith is slumping.

They are here because they are warm bodies on a rebuilding team. It won't take much to displace them

It won't take much to displace them Montoyo specifically said that he has Brito hitting at the top of the order to allow him to audition. Brito has failed miserably, but it’s not true to say he was signed just to make up the numbers.

TheOutsider Verified Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Bisons struck out 19 times today, 14 times against Nick Pivetta. Biggio had a hattrick, not a great audition from him.
