Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Keith Law released his top 50 prospects, has Tatis over Vlad at number 1. That's typical of Law. If a prospect doesn't fit a certain body type, which Guerrero obviously doesn't, he dramatically penalizes them.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 I don't know how Jansen is ranked outside the top 100, especially compared to 19 year old pitching prospects and crap like that. He's hit the s*** out of the ball the past two seasons and in 100 big league ABs he looked very good. From all the pitch framing metrics I've seen he appears to be league average. Defensive reports aren't glowing but he appears to be acceptable back there. Steamer has him pegged for 2.6 WAR in 100 games next year. To me he has a high floor and ceiling. How do you rank a guy like that outside of the Top 30 or so? Criminally underrated.

Radio Scouts like him more than Bo The combination of contact and OBP/power would be intriguing even if he was a f***ing first base prospect lol
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Did Chavez Young just make a list or something? He was showing up on Frangraphs most searched minor leaguers thing.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Did Chavez Young just make a list or something? He was showing up on Frangraphs most searched minor leaguers thing. It was probably just 5 *******s obsessively using Fangraphs last night to justify their half-baked opinions on some guy they've never watched play baseball.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Radio Scouts like him more than Bo The combination of contact and OBP/power would be intriguing even if he was a f***ing first base prospect lol Exactly! Steamer has him playing 100 games next year and still projects him for the 7th most WAR among 2019 Catchers. He's a stud. Seems like everyone tracked his meteoric rise which started in 2017 but just kind of quit moving him up the list for some reason.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2019 Author Posted January 30, 2019 That's typical of Law. If a prospect doesn't fit a certain body type, which Guerrero obviously doesn't, he dramatically penalizes them. Pretty sure he'd rank Vladdy #1 if his defense was good...but it really isn't. Fat ass or not, Vladdy is kinda one dimensional. That one dimension is amazing, but don't pretend that he adds much when he's not in the batters box.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Vlad Jr. is the better prospect. I see Law's arguments but Tatis Jr's bat and defense have some small question marks. He strikes out a lot and he's probably moving to 3B. Yeah, Vlad's defense is crap but there are 0 questions about his bat. He walked more than he k'd in AAA as a 19 year old. Tatis Jr. struck out 28% of the time in AA. I get that I'm being pretty nitpicky but when deciding which Lambo is best you have to. Eloy can handle a corner OF spot but I doubt he's great there due to his slow speed. He also doesn't really walk and he's 2 years older.

But I think that a lot of people just gloss over the defense too much. Vladdy is going to give you zero defense but that bat. My goodness. If Vladdy can give you league average defense somehow, I think he's one of the Top 5 players in baseball.

Jansen is our starting catcher and was only 10-15 games away from losing rookie status last year. It’s possible he’s been excluded from consideration.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 KL lists him 107, BP lists him 89, and MLB 65. To their credit, BA has him 42 and PL has him 26. Who is PL again though?

Ray Verified Member Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Keith Law also had Amed Rosario as his #1 prospect 2 years ago.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 lmao I don't get why everyone hates him, I still read his stuff for another take on prospect. He is no more or less wrong than anyone else.

He is no more or less wrong than anyone else. On top of being a moron who is constantly wrong (he openly mocked people who questioned why he was so low on Luis Severino) he's an unsufferable **** who is also a massive SJW. He freaks out at people like those hyper sensitive liberal college kids for the smallest infractions. That probably adds to the disdain. Basically, he's an awful human being who is also very bad at his job but still extremely smug about it.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Yeah seriously, there is not a single likable quality about Law, and his baseball insight doesn't make up for it (it actually makes it worse).
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Who has ESPN access? Can you post his history of top 100's just to see if Law is terrible or not. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/10334094/complete-archive-keith-law-ranking-top-100-prospects-mlb
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Meh I don't give a s*** about his political views or anything he posts on twitter. I just read his stuff because I find him really pessimistic about prospects and that's generally a different take than most other scouting reports that just gloss over the negatives of a player. He usually provides pretty good info on the Jays target in the draft too.

Tatis D looked very good in the DWL. some problems with the throw, but good overall

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Kacy Clemens career is over after his run-in with bouncers at a Houston bar on New Years Eve. Connor Capel (who is in the Cards org) suffered a fractured skull. Neither were intoxicated and are suing for $200k and are fighting to get the bar shutdown.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Is his career over because he sucks? or because of the injuries he sustained?
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Not that Clemens had much of a career left but a s***** situation no less
