glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 Bo is not the kind of prospect that you worry too much about Super 2. He's GREAT, but he's not a generational kinda talent. He'll be called up when he's needed. It’s not about super two it’s about control. If he comes up some time in 2019 then he will be a FA after 2025. If he comes up in April 2020 then he will be a super two but controllable through 2026. No sense getting one fewer year from him by playing him in 2019 when 2026 is likely going to be more important for the team’s win curve. Again, just saying what I think the front office will do.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Hey look, I found a vid of a young Adrian Beltre

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Blue Jays pitching in the system seems to be way behind the bats. There is a big hole in A and A+ at the very least. I think the team top 30 prospects would be about 2/3 bats. Maybe more. https://www.radioscouts.com/blog/stat-scouting-the-minors-z-scores-for-pitchers-rookie-to-a Could be why there seems to have been a focus on acquiring arms this offseason?

I feel like our OF prospect lag behind as well. If you compare our IF prospects with the OF or on the mound, it's like night and day. Alford has tools, but questions marks...who's our next best OF prospect after him....Conine? McKinney? Chavez? Noda? Wall? There's a drop off for sure.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 Chavez is our best OF prospect and he's very, very good. He really flies under the radar.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2019 Author Posted January 21, 2019 (edited) Chavez is our best OF prospect and he's very, very good. He really flies under the radar. That may be true. But he shouldn't fly that low under EVERYONE'S radar. In addition to the obvious need for arms, I'm thinking they'll add some higher profile OFs during the draft and/or the IFA market. Decent MLB ready guys like Alford and McKinney, then you have Biggio, Otto, Young, Conine, Stevenson, Noda, Davis, Wall, Palacios, a few others - a couple of those guys should turn into something.

When we’re ready to compete again we can acquire 1 or 2 outfielders (plus some starting pitchers). We don’t need to have every position filled by home grown prospects.

It would seem that one of SRF or Kevin Smith didn't make it, but they were probably pretty close. I'm curious to see where Jansen and Pardinho end up.

I'm curious to see where Jansen and Pardinho end up. With BA you can't really judge 100% by the top ten list as it's an individual list (Ben Badler) and then the top 100 is a collaboration with all...although there has been some talk that Cooper pulls rank occasionally. I can't imagine trying to come up with a top 100 between 9 guys without a points system. I'd rather see all 9 individual lists honestly

Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 It seems odd that Groshans would be in the top 100 after 48 games of rookie ball.

One of Biggio and Groshans will probably not make it in though.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Predictions for the Jays on BA Vlad 1 Bo 6 Jansen 49 Pearson 60 Pardinho 69 Groshans 70 Smith 100
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Yeah it will be Vlad, Bo, Jansen, Pearson, Pardinho, Smith, and Groshans, most likely.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Huh? If I were to guess, the 7 would be Vlad, Bo, Jansen, Pearson, Pardinho, Smith and Groshans. That's pretty much what I meant when I said SRF might not make it.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 It seems odd that Groshans would be in the top 100 after 48 games of rookie ball. Groshans will be an interesting one. BA doesn't stray too far from it's draft rankings (they are a business and if they jumbled these rankings too much based on 2.5 months of pro ball they would be saying "our draft rankings really mean nothing"). Groshans was 38th in their draft rankings so they would be saying in two and a half months he jumped past 20 to 25 people. On the other hand you do not want to leave a guy off that jumps way up and everyone else has them ranked.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Locks: Vlad, Bo, Jansen, Pardinho, Pearson, Smith Smith was 80 in the September 2018 list. Possibles: SRF, Groshans, Biggio, Alford My guess is Biggio makes the list near the bottom.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 I have no idea why Alford would even be mentioned here. You guys just wait to see where Radioscouts.com ends up ranking him.
