Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Vlad will be up in September as a reward for his god-like season. He’ll be back in AAA to start next year to ensure the extra year of control and then he’ll be up to stay. The people who don’t want to see him this September are misguided IMO. We can have our cake and eat it too. If Vlad murders baseball all Spring the outcry would be way louder if he doesn't make the team out of Spring. Especially if he comes up in September and puts up stupid numbers right away. Play it safe with letting him play out the season in Buffalo and announce early that hes going to be in the Arizona Fall League to continue to get reps on defence.
Stoneyen Verified Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 My god Vlad's AAA numbers are bananas. 8 walks, 2 strikeouts, and ISOing 300+. At this point it will be surprising if he's not immediately one of the best hitters in the majors as soon as he's promoted. Vlad's Steamer projection is up to a 129 wRC+

Plus if JD signs the QO it gives another excuse to delay Vlad’s call up next season.
King Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 I can't believe there are people who think its smart to callup Vlad to mash in September and send him down for 7 weeks to start 2019. I don't even.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 from what i see on FB, the casuals have bought into the narrative that VGJ needs to work on his defense, or they think VGJ will struggle his first years in MLB (cough, cough) we won't see him before 2019 unless he does a Kingery, Shatkins ain't dumb
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 T.J Zeuch 6 IP 4 H 0 ER 0 BB 5 K 7GO/1FO ERA down to 3.12 / 3.56 FIP 3:1 SO/BB ratio. Groundball machine with great downward plain, using his 6'7'' 225 lb frame in getting it done. Just turned 23 in AA which boasts a boatload of the best positional prospects in the game. T.J Zeuch will be a solid #3/4 for years to come.
King Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 I can’t believe you can’t count 4 weeks of September and then the 2 or 3 weeks he would have had to be down to start April anyway. I cant believe you're this much of a f***ing moron.

I don't even. Yeah when they call him up they won’t be sending him back down. That would actually look worse than keeping him down until next May because at least with the latter they can say he has to work on his D or some other excuse. Once he’s up, sending him back down for a longer period of time to compensate for the Sept call up would look awful. Shatkins is smarter than that. My fear is always with Rogers, but even they have to know one month of Vlad in Sept when the team sucks won’t do s***, so I’m not worried.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Which prospects are called up this season? Like most, I don't see Bichette (still in AA) and Vlad called up until May, 2019. But I do see SRF and Jansen called up. Man, I wish the Yankees wanted Martin for 10% of his salary.

I don't even. I still think the best thing is like a 10 year 150 million dollar deal with a opt out after like 9. It's best for him and us imo. Call him up now, and potentially have the games best player for 10 years at a discount the final 3 years of the deal

Vlad (prob after the minor league playoffs), SRF (if he doesn’t get called up before then), and whichever of the outfielders who’ve already seen time in the majors that aren’t already up.

Vlad will get sent down when he’s too fat to play 3B, so next year haha.

I had sort of written off Tellez but he’s had a really solid June+ in MiLB. I like Smoak but he’s blocking this kid. Smoak has a decent $8M option for 2019. Good value but why on a rebuilding 2019 roster. Is t there anyone out there who could use him?

That contract makes it palatable to DFA Morales and run with Tellez until you know what he's going to give you IMO.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 I'm still not sold on Tellez, but didn't realize he had a 120 wrc+ in AAA this year. Better than I thought. Shatkins liked him enough to put him on the 40 man last year despite coming off a terrible season and little chance that he would have been taken in the R5, so maybe they see him as part of the future. All I know is the Jays better increase their food budget if Vlad and Rowdy are in the same clubhouse in the bigs. Snacks for days.

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 In his first 3 full years what do you guys think a conservative projection would be for Vlad in terms of WAR.

That contract makes it palatable to DFA Morales and run with Tellez until you know what he's going to give you IMO. Decent, outstanding. Semantics. Just predict the WAR for Smoak, multiply it by the cost of a WAR (predicted for 2019), minus the $8M and that is the surplus value. Either way, why is he on this team in 2019?
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 In his first 3 full years what do you guys think a conservative projection would be for Vlad in terms of WAR. 30, or thirty if you’re down with non-numbers. #30tooshorttopost
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 30, or thirty if you’re down with non-numbers. #30tooshorttopost 30 would be hard. Pujols was about 22 his first three years, and his best 3 year run was 25. Mike Trout hasn't had a three year run of 30. I believe Barry Bonds is the last to have a three year run of 30 (35). He hit like (literally) .350 .540 .800 or something for three years. To hit 30 Vlad would have to hit .360 .470 .700 or something... or if he hits a little less contribute way more on defense and baserunning then we think he will.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 In his first 3 full years what do you guys think a conservative projection would be for Vlad in terms of WAR. Conservative? 8.5 fWAR over 3 years.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Conservative? 8.5 fWAR over 3 years. Realistic.... 15 fWAR
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 For age 20, 21, 22? Would be happy with @9 fWAR He would still be younger than half our prospects when his Arb years begin
