tercet Verified Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Nobody said anything about him being Syndergaard, don't be daft. He's got potential to be more than a mid-rotation starter, he's young and he's got good stuff, and his numbers this year (at the highest level before the majors in his early 20s) indicate that he may have figured out something, maybe even since March! I highly doubt it considering how bad he looked in March when I saw him. He is a poor mans Joba Chamberlain imo, fastball that has no clue where it going, and a slider that crappy hitters will chase. Versus good hitters he will look silly since they won't chase his slider as much and let him walk the world. But like every fan base your prospect will never fail, and your not allowed to talk bad about them.
tercet Verified Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 You're still pounding the drum of SRF opening a game with 10 straight balls that you watched him pitch=he sucks. That line of reasoning is ******** and it's time to tuck that away. He is a 22 year old lottery ticket that would walk more guys then he strikesouts if he was given a chance in the majors this year.
tercet Verified Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Your scouting report consists of one spring training game lol Yep
tercet Verified Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Your sample size = 10 pitches on one game. My sample size = 10.64 K/9, 3.55 BB/9, 3.27 FIP in 104 IP between AA & AAA. Hell, his AAA is actually even better in isolation. In 59.2 IP; 10.71 K/9, 3.17 BB/9, 3.17 FIP So he's actually improved his walk rate against tougher competition. Naw he still looked terrible in that game I saw him besides the first inning. But look his AAA numbers mean diddly squat because he can get crappy hitters to chase his slider. If he was given mlb starts he would probably walk 6-7 / 9 with more walks then strikeouts. Maybe he could improve in the future but right now he is not anywhere near ready.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 You guys are getting trolled so hard.
tercet Verified Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 You guys are getting trolled so hard. Naw it's pretty much the exact same people calling me out for saying Teoscar wouldn't regress, lol. Now the question is whether they are trolling me or just this stubborn/stupid/fanboyism?

SRF may prove to be nothing more than a reliever but your 10 pitch sample size is not in any way an indicator of what his future holds. You’re chastizing people for stat scouting yet you’re using a 10 pitch eye-test as your barometer. Crawl back into your hole.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Did you guys see Chapman threw 10 consecutive balls today?
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Yes it is a small sample but how often in baseball history have you seen a pitcher open a game with 10 straight balls? SRF has a major weakness, which is an inability to constantly throw quality strikes. Have any of you guys actually seen him pitch before? Doesn't seem like it lol
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Ethered. It's over, there's no coming back from this.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Haha, I watched this live and thought the same thing. None of the pitches were close either. The 11 straight walked in 2 runs with the bases loaded, and the Yankees fans were booing him mercilessly.

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 The timing of this is almost TOO perfect. But, it wasn't to START a game, so... Pfft, didn't even open the inning with 11 straight balls. Not the same bro.
flafson Verified Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 Is Chapman hurt? His velocity is way down... I guess they could use some pitchers *wink wink*
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 (edited) Law lays into Guerrero's body type... anyone have his mid-season report? Terminator? Guerrero’s bat belongs in the big leagues and it’s the best in the minors, bar none. It’s an 80 hit tool, and because he’s so strong and his hands are so quick, it’s 80 power, too. If you’re a fantasy player, and you want to know who the best prospect is, it’s Guerrero. But position and defense matter, and Guerrero is not a third baseman in anything but name right now. He’s enormous for the position, and at 19, he’s more likely to get bigger than smaller. He has a tremendous arm, and his hands are fine, but he’s not mobile or agile enough for anything on the dirt other than first base. I’d try him in right field first, but he’s going to play somewhere at the wrong end of the defensive spectrum, and might not be good anywhere. And there’s a real concern about how big he’ll be even in his late 20s, given how his body is already changing for the worse. That’s all merely my way of explaining why he’s No. 2 and not No. 1 on this list. He might still hit like Miguel Cabrera, a defensive nonentity who got big young and still hit like a star until age 34, and nobody will begrudge Baby Vlad those last few pounds.
