I was reading BA's top 200 draft prospects for next years draft, and below they had put this disclaimer

"*It is worth noting that Oregon State LHP Luke Heimlich is not on this list. This is not an oversight. In 2017 Heimlich would have ranked as a supplemental first round to second round talent before the Oregonian reported in June that in the past Heimlich pled guilty to sexually molesting a 6-year-old family member. Every MLB team removed him from their draft board and the junior went undrafted. He then remained unsigned even though as an undrafted draft eligible junior he was eligible to sign with any team as a free agent. In our reporting, multiple teams said they have yet to figure out how they will deal with Heimlich in the 2018 draft."

I had forgotten about this guy.

Out of curiosity would you be cool with the Jays taking a late flier on him?

There was very little chance a team would sign a convicted paedophile then. Now that the #metoo movement has happened, there is a 0% chance - the backlash would be overwhelming.

No not ever. If they did, I would start cheering for the Yankees.

Sure. Plunk him in the minors, trade him to Mexico City when they get a team.

I didn't really know where to share this(love it), but I think here would be suffice, a friend of mine Rich whom played with the Birds and Rays shared this well written powerful blurb from a former teammate Joe Leonard he knew along the way in pro-ball...

Rich-- Outstanding!!! I did not write this. A pitcher named Joseph Leonard did. I read it and wanted to share his powerful message.

“For anyone who wants to know, this is what it means to be a professional baseball player:
My job was on the line every single day. That taught me work ethic.

If we weren't good enough, we didn't play. And if we didn't play, we didn't get promoted. That taught me competitiveness.

People would get released or demoted literally every week, and we'd have to see the look on their faces as they cleaned out their locker in front of the whole team, as their dream came to an end. That taught me compassion.

When we failed or performed poorly, we did it with a spotlight on us in front of hundreds and thousands of people, with no excuses to hide behind and no one to blame but ourselves. And then the next day, we're right back in front of that same disappointed crowd, but we couldn't let that affect us at all. That taught me mental toughness.

I was on the road for about 9-10months out of the year, missing out on family, friends, holidays and relationships. That taught me sacrifice.

There were times when we would outperform our competition, do noticeably better than them, go above and beyond what was expected of us... and still receive no recognition or promotion. Whether it be because of the person's name, or who they know. That taught me that life isn't always fair.

And on the opposite end of the spectrum, I have seen people less talented than others train extremely hard and just plain outwork/outhustle their competition, and then get recognized and promoted above the more talented player because of it. That taught me that hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.

If I was late, I was fined, fired, or left behind. That taught me to be punctual.

When you live, travel, work and hang out with the same people everyday, you become close to them and form a bond. You become family. And then in a few months, the season ends and they are gone and you may never see them again. That taught me the value of friendship.

When I saw, heard and felt the love, respect and admiration from the fans, old and young... that taught me humility.

I got to listen to the National Anthem (hundreds of times each year) before my job starts each night. That taught me pride.

But to think others sacrificed their lives so I could chase a dream and play a game. That taught me perspective. I try to never take the little things for granted.

I have a masters degree in Real Life. It has to be lived. You can't teach it. I have failed in a season, more than most fail in a lifetime and still wanted more. Because that's how baseball players are wired.
You do what you've gotta do, no matter what.

The looks alone on all the little kids' faces when they see you approaching them, like they think you are Derek Jeter and whatever you say to them is gospel. That you could change and influence a child's day/week/month/year or even life by the way you treat them in the next few seconds or the next few words you say to them. And that's when I realized that even though I was the one playing the game, and I was the one who all the kids looked up to and came to see, it really wasn't about me, at all. And that taught me my favorite lesson...selflessness." #LOB #stayreadysoyoudonthavetogetready

The site gets a little unresponsive at times. Try Firefox (at least for me I haven't had any 522 errors with it). Chrome/Edge may have tighter timeout settings or something.

I have been using firefox but it's also acting up on my phone to the point where I can't access any of the treads. It keeps saying that the Site is offline

Interesting. I guess the flip side is you could try Chrome on the phone. I haven't had any issues with Firefox on the desktop (which is what I use 95% of the time), but I use Chrome on the rare occasion I need to check on my phone.

I've had 0 problems with this site using Chrome on my phone.

Tatis is gonna be a 3B and the K rate is cause for concern. I also don't think his speed will carry to MLB SBs. I think Bichette is going to be a better hitter with a better chance to stick up the middle.

Well yeah, but Ohtani is unique. He's a really, really good pitcher prospect (top 1), and also a really good hitter prospect (top 10).

I think people might be overstating the value of his uniqueness. He's a pitcher who's probably going to DH a couple of times a week, and might not be an above-average hitter. He also has a partially torn UCL apparently. I'd definitely take Vlad and Acuna over him.

He's probably just going to be a pitcher sooner rather than later. He'll probably be a Darvish-level ace, but I'd take a generational hitting prospect with a chance to be next Trout, Miggy, Bryant, Manny, etc over any pitching prospect.

Where did you see that he'd be considered a top 10 hitting prospect? Everything I've read has him as more of a borderline top 100 hitting prospect.

I haven't seen anything that low on him hitting, but I've seen a lot of hype - and his stats in Japan are ridiculous. His rank for 2016 and 2017:

Batting average: second (.322), second (.332)

On-base percentage: fourth (.416), fifth (.403)

Slugging percentage: first (.588), fifth (.540)

OPS: first (1.004), fourth (.942)

"There's no word yet on whether Ohtani is able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. He has yet to play in a single game in the United States after starring in Japan and signing with the Angels for $2,315,000 in December, and he had a platelet-rich plasma injection in his pitching elbow in October.

That didn't stop a group of club executives from anointing Ohtani as baseball's best overall prospect and best pitching prospect, making him the first player to earn both distinctions in MLB Pipeline's third annual survey.

Ohtani, who is ranked No. 1 on the Top 100 list and the Angels' Top 30 list, earned acclaim as the Babe Ruth of Japan, and there's less hyperbole in that statement than might be expected. While he was limited in 2017 by a right ankle injury that necessitated surgery in October, he won Japan's Pacific League MVP Award when fully healthy the year before. He went 10-4 with a 1.86 ERA and 174 strikeouts in 140 innings while batting .322/.416/.588 with 22 homers in 104 games in 2016.

"Ohtani's talent, athleticism and makeup are beyond compare," an assistant GM with an American League club said. "He's a once-in-a-generation player capable of things on the field we really haven't seen before."

While most teams think the 23-year-old Ohtani has more upside on the mound, there are clubs who prefer him as a position player.

"His present repertoire and polish make him a potential top-of-the-rotation starter already in 2018," a baseball-operations official with an AL team said. "If that wasn't enough, the offensive potential as a two-way player makes him easily the best prospect in baseball."

The first scouting director said he'd put Ohtani's raw power among the best of any player at any level currently. "I've been doing this 26 years, seen as many players as anybody, but I've never seen a skill set like this," the first director said, noting that the only real negative has been some nagging injuries that have made it a bit more difficult to see him. "This guy is polished like McKay with Greene's tools, but he's faster than Greene. There should be giddiness; no one has ever seen it. We'll see how it turns out."
