Doc wasn't really a fireballer, he sat at 91.2(vFA) for his career. I get what you're saying, just isn't a great example to me. :)

Doc threw mostly cutters by the time the systems were able to differentiate. When he first came up, he was throwing upper 90's.

Ya. I remember Doc being 92-95 a lot when he was in Toronto. Was touching 98 before Mel Queen rebuilt him.

I don't remember him being a flame thrower which is why I checked. As I'm not intimately familiar with pitch recognition software, when could they reliably differentiate cutters from 4 seamers? Looking on fg it has him throwing cutters 25% or more from 2007 on and there was no jump on his 4seam velo.

Not sure exactly. However, Doc did throw mostly cutters by 2007. He had already been in the league for like 9 years by that point though.

Anyone know what's up with Francisco Rios? Thought he was a starter, but seems to have been doing a lot of relief outings lately (not good ones at that). Is he coming back from an injury?

Sort of 9 years. He wasn't up for good until 2001 after Queen fixed him.

Yeah, but the point was that when he first came up, he was throwing upper 90s. That was before Queen got a hold of him, and he threw a lot of cutters. (Although I do think I remember seeing some upper 90's in 2001 too when he returned).

To be fair, it's also worth noting that radar guns probably weren't as accurate, or consistently targeted, then either.

Believe it has more to do with Borucki and Pannones arrival. Rios and Dawson have both left the rotation recently.

Ok sure, maybe when he first came up he did throw hard. He had no future on that path though.

Was at the game today in Erie. After getting staked to a 5-0 lead in the top of the 1st, Conner Greene proceeded to s*** the bed. It is hard to figure him out.he was throwing consistently in the mid-90s hitting 100 once with an 83 mph devastating slider, but he still gets hit. Of course he's always behind in the count. After watching a lot of these prospects in person, I'm becoming convinced that the Jays have only 2 legit prospects- Vladdy and Bo.

The only upside in going to today's game wajunior and travis 015.jpgjunior and travis 016.jpgs the fact that I found this retro shirt in the clearance section.

That's part of it for sure but batters are catching up to it also.. I wonder if he tips his pitches. Btw, who do you have left tonight in Draft Kings?

Nate Pearson:

3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K

This man is a beast.

47 pitches, 31 strikes. 0 groundouts, 0 flyouts. 2 lineouts and the guy who walked was caught stealing/picked off.

This kid Hankins works extremely fast...

This + 97 mph quick pitch is unfair

Huh, yeah I noticed that Dawson was relieving, too, but that didn't seem surprising. I hope it's not a permanent move for Rios, though. He's taken a step back this year, but at 22 in his first year at AA, you'd think he'd get one more shot.

Olivares 1/3 with a double and two walks in his A+ debut. Teoscar crushing tonight with AAA

Happy to see Oli get off to a great start. Happy he made it up to Dunedin.

3500 RPM Curveball lol. This kid was something else. MLB average is ~2450, most don't top over 3000

Cool lets draft him.

That is pretty awesome and I want to see more.

Edit - there are a few YouTube videos, pretty impressive stuff

I'll post the link to the game if it is put up somewhere. Stewarts performance is worth re-watching on it's own but it was a fun game, especially if you like pitching. Every pitcher but 1 or 2 was up past 95.
