Laika Community Moderator Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 2080 is doing 1-2 hour podcasts and discussing like, 15-20 prospects from each system in depth. It's pretty good content.
King Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Keith Law's list and prospect opinions are always good for a laugh, but definitely not worth any money. The four pillars are now BP, BA, MLB.com, and 2080. Not like BP has been that great recently, since they lost most of their writers, like Jason Parkes, and goofs like Bret Sayre are running the show. Fangraphs is pretty good with Longenhagen and McDaniel was excellent. MLB.com is great considering for free content as well.

BP is still a staple. Their scouts are very good, even if you haven't learned their names yet. They get the benefit of the doubt as a scout factory until they start to fail. Their Eyewitness Reports in particular are great. I don't value their rankings very much at all. Love the player pages though and minor league game notes.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Teddy Cahill has Brady Singer as a potential 1-1 candidate in 2018. That's the Seth Beer draft so probably not going to happen. Perfect Game has Beer 7th in that draft (Singer 3rd behind Rocker and Turang). I know nothing about the high school guys, and really don't care as that will change a million times by 2018 but this is considered to be the best Freshman class in years. 2018 could be such an impact year with a great free agent class and potentially great draft class too.

Keith Law said in his chat the other day that he doesn't consider Beer as the front runner for 1-1 in 2018 as well. Pretty weird considering all the reports on him have been pretty glowing. He rakes!

Pretty weird considering all the reports on him have been pretty glowing. He rakes! I've read repeatedly that he'd go top 3 if he was in this draft class as he should be. Goes to college as a 17 year old and rakes (admittedly he slowed down in ACC play). Much like my freshman assessments of Bryant and Rendon....I will not drop Beer ever. Top 20 MLB hitter FV is lowest I'm going on this one.

Franklin Barreto, SS/2B, OAK I didn't think Urena would make it. I like him but there's a good amount of shortstop prospect depth there in the minors right now. You could argue him over say, Nick Gordon but Gordon has the prospecty hype behind him where Urena really doesn't.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Anyone else surprised by Crawford at 4? I thought his stock was higher than that. I'd say ahead of Rosario at the very least.

I would flip him with Rosario too. That might be prospect fatigue. But aside from that I'm not surprised. He was young, but a .688 OPS is still a turn off. Dansby and Gleyber have a lot more shimmer.

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Isan Diaz is such a horrible #40. Somewhere between 40 and 200 places too high he's good - plus hit, plus power, 50 defender up the middle.

SS is loaded with top prospect talent, but some of these guys will not play any (or very little) SS in the majors. We could still see Urena near the ass-end of the top 100 when it's released this Saturday.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 he's good - plus hit, plus power, 50 defender up the middle. I'll give you 1.5 of the 3. He's a defender up the middle (who has zero ability to make good smart decisions, 24 of 31 errors being throwing errors) he's a 20 head and despite a compact swing he's going to strike out a third of the time, because he's too stupid to know better.

He actually seems smart to know. Knows how to trade K's for dingers. That's something most little MIFs are too "smart" to do.

I suppose the Brewers should be bad enough for the next while to allow him to forge a Danny Espinosa roller coaster type career.
