Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Leaving the merits of my approach aside, you guys should know by now that I'm far from a stats scout. I like to watch the guys and put my own input into the rankings because I enjoy it, even if I'm not right as often. I like Greene's athleticism and repeatable delivery. He's got great control and the walks are a result of him nibbling. His recent promotion gives me faith that the Jays brass sees the same thing and want to challenge him at age 21 in AAA. Okay, but you said "Greene at 12 is miles away from what the stats and scouting reports suggest" which is just not correct. If you want to change that to "I watched him play on the radio the other day and I like his long limbs and handsome California face" then that's fine.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 1-Reid Foley 2-Ureña 3-HalRam 4-McGuire 5-Alford 6-Vladdy
Thaddeus Malice Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 So is the Jays farm now middle of the pack? The depth doesn't look too bad now and it's a decent mix of position and pitching prospects.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 So is the Jays farm now middle of the pack? The system has probably moved up a couple of spots. + there seem to have been more positive developments than negative seasons so far this year.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 1-Reid Foley 2-Ureña 3-HalRam 4-McGuire 5-Alford 6-Vladdy You know full well Alford is a better prospect than Urena. And not having Harris in your top 5 is silly.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Classic Grant. Alford (high strike out guy) behind Urena (low strike out guy, well atleast this year) is "confusing". A little passive aggessive nudge that anyone who doesn't agree with the great Grant is "confused". Your own reality is not even consisted with itself, Grant you are a strawman along the lines of Trump, a narcosist who only follow your own nonsensical whims. Gose - an obvious failure despite reaching a+ at 19 because Grant the genius knows strikeouts are bad. Alford - destined for success, despite the strikeouts because Grant has said so by decree. I realize Alford was injured earlier this year, I realize he spent time playing football.. at the same time he is 2 years older than Gose was in Dunedin. I'm not dissing Alford... I'm just amused that that you love Alford despite the strikeouts. It's worth noting that Alford's strikeouts were in check in 2015 at 19% and were at the same level in July of 2016. This is about whether or not you believe the injury is a blip on the radar. It has nothing to do with some philosophy on strikeouts.

Yes, I forgot that no milb games are televised in BJMB fantasy land. I probably worded my statement incorrectly, but it's still an absurd ranking when compared to expert opinions and the Jays handling of him, even if it's just for your last statement.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Jim Callis has him 10th. Two spots. BA has him 3rd (and basically in a tie for first).
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 BA has him 3rd (and basically in a tie for first). Do they update team lists during the season? I've never noticed. Thought only mlb.com did. Doesn't really refute the point though. You said it was absurd compared to "expert opinions" and then Jim Callis, expert of experts, has him a **** hair way.

Cyborg Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Harris at 11 and Greene at 12 are completely baffling and miles away from what stats and scouting reports would suggest. Alford behind Urena is also confusing given the former's resurgence since becoming healthy. 5 to 14 is pretty fluid, its not a big difference. Greene and Harris stats are poo poo btw.
King Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Max Pentecost should probably be promoted. If he's just going to DH I don't see why he couldn't be hitting at a higher level. 2/4 tonight with a double and a triple, btw.

SRF, Alford, and Greene were all ranked in BA's updated top 100 prospects in the league. It's fair to say that the same evaluators would reflect that opinion in a team list.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Tiers are probably better. Sexy Arm Reid-Foley Sexy Bats Urena, Alford, Guerrero Solid Prospects Ramirez, McGuire, Tellez, Bichette, Greene, Harris, Zeuch, Rios, Perdomo, Pentecost, Maese

Tellez is pretty sexy. 143 wRC+ as a 21 year old in AA.

Cyborg Verified Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 If you're just going by bat. Tellez is pretty sexy. 143 wRC+ as a 21 year old in AA. I was using bat=position player. Tellez is not on the level of those 3 position players since he has 0 defensive value.

King Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Just turned 21 this year and putting up those numbers in AA is very impressive. His bat is real. Yeah but Keith Law says he struggles against advanced pitching.

I have my lists going back more than a decade and the results are as good as any publication and much better in some cases. Most of that is dumb luck and the fact that I put a lot of weight on the most successful publication (BA, for the Jays at least), but I still hit on a few guys each year.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Do you guys do a mid season version of the board top prospects list?

Alford behind Urena is also confusing given the former's resurgence since becoming healthy. Harris' stats are pretty mediocre from a college pitcher who just reached High A and is nearly 23.
