Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 How is Pompey ready? Pompey was rushed into a starting role this year because he is Canadian, however he needs a couple of more years split between AAA and the Blue Jays to show that he is ready before the Blue Jays should trade someone with the potential of Pillar. he wasn't rushed, he earned it from his play last season and in ST. the only 'rush' was sending him down to the minors after a month. he would have been traded at the deadline if the Jays had no 2016 plans for him i expect he will be a starter out of spring training.... one of pillar or revere moved
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 I hope he is in the minors instead. He is a waste to be the 4th guy. Ideally you'd like Saunders to fill that role but understandably want some insurance in case, so a Carrera-like player would be ideal as the 4th/5th OF. Ideally your 4th OF can actually play CF. The OF situation will be interesting next year. It's too bad we might have the only short black guy who can't play CF in the MLB.
nextyear Verified Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 110 wRC+ amrite Do you realize that since the start of June until yesterday (396 plate appearances) he had a wRC+ of 105 - http://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=12434&position=OF&type=&gds=2015-06-02&gde=2015-09-26&season= . Once today's contribution is taken into account he should be at 106 or 107 wRC+ over his last 400 plate appearances (I will check it once it is updated early tomorrow morning). Pillar is on the rise. Let's see if after the last game of the regular season he will be at 110 wRC+ since the start of June (hardly just a hot streak). I am very glad that the Blue Jays have Pillar defensively in CF and offensively going into the playoffs. He is an impact player both defensively and now offensively.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Donaldson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great Team Win!!!!!!!!!! Had to fight back for this one.

nextyear Verified Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 because he is canadian? seriously? I have no idea what you mean. Are you saying his 43 plate appearances in 2014 with a wRC+ 105 is proof that he is a starting CF? Now he has 93 plates appearances in 2015 with a wRC+ of 59 - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=12797&position=OF Get serious. I want Pompey to succeed as much as anyone but I am being serious.

nextyear Verified Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 so may and april don't count Not for me. I would rather look at his current abilities not what it was when he was still learning to hit at the major league level.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 There is nothing like Mariano's cutter The other 3 are former/current "Jays" nastys. What does that have to do with Rivera? We all know what his cutter was. HOF. Also....Guzman's slider was rated #1 in AL in his time.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 so is pompey our 4th guy next year? It drives me nuts he won't be on our playoff roster and Izzzz ----eeeekkkk---iii--elll may be when Pompey can give you many more tools.
baubau Verified Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 he would have been traded at the deadline if the Jays had no 2016 plans for him I wouldn't say that. He was certainly offered in the rumors of Corrasco and while he wasn't dealt, it doesn't mean the Jays won't include him in a package to get someone. Him not being traded isn't a sign that the Jays have plans for him for 2016.

nextyear Verified Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 http://gfycat.com/QueasyMedicalHypacrosaurus I wonder if Bautista is mocking Kawasaki?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 as long as you didn't think Lawrie was better, its alright to feel sad This exactly. I loved watching Lawrie play, was sad to see him go. However, to have been getting Donaldson back was just a dream come true.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Donaldson's HR was just awesome. Can't believe that's how the home season closed out. I mean, I believe it, but it's just that perfect. Also, his tag out of Mahtook at third base was just huge. Play of the game if not for you-know-what.

Reminded me of George Bell's final Exhibition Stadium walk off HR. Had that same storybook ending feel to it. Or even that Joe Carter walk off single vs. Angels to win the division in 1991. That was also the final home game that year IIRC.

Pompey was given the starting CF position in April 2015 after only 43 MLB plate appearances in 2014. Travis proved that he could hit whereas Pompey showed that he wasn't ready. What makes you so keen on Pompey? I was a fan of Pompey because he is from Mississauga, and I still am a fan of Pompey, I just don't think he is ready to be on the 25 man playoff roster as some have suggested. If Devon Travis started in 2015 the way Pompey did, would Travis have been the starting 2nd baseman after April? I think not.
