Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I know they lost, but watching this is awesome. Everything from Buck making nonsense sounds, to Bautsita and Stroman, to EE, Price and Dickey jumping like little kids. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/gotta-see-it-navarro-1st-pitch-home-run-sends-game-to-extras/?row=0&row_ids=1617293

It was almost as if we had been in an elimination game today and lost or something, lol. For sure he has had his issues in the broadcast booth this year (and some of those screw ups and miscalls have been hilarious) but you can really sense the emotion, passion and loyalty he has in the Blue Jays and I gotta say I definitely appreciate that. As one of the very few remaining TV/Radio broadcasting crew members from the glory days along with Jerry (then having to go through the all of those dark days, including actually managing the team up close and personal) you can just sense the excitement from him for our post season aspirations this year after having to live through such a long drought.
Wolf Verified Member Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Anyone else annoyed by the Sportsnet camera operators? all they do nowadays since every home game is sold out is show the crowd. It's so annoying. I get it, the Rogers Centre is packed now show the goddamn game. They completely missed Donaldson's first at bat tonight(JD swung on the 1st pitch) because of their great camera work.

But yeah, they really botched Donaldson's first AB. For a second I thought I was seeing a highlight from a previous AB. It was strange. Sportsnet production is better than it used to be though. There was a time when it seemed like you could never be sure if the pitch count ticker was accurate or not.

Have a huge, self gratifying, inferiority laden lead in to a question. "You see all these people here...how great has your welcome to Toronto been?"
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Jesus Christ...Betances has struck out 120 this year as a reliever. Eddy was geared up for 99 and that slider is wicked. It happens. We still have 3 more outs. Yeah, I'm gradually going over to the Trouba side with the bottom of the lineup up and Miller coming in. Well we got to Miller but couldn't put him away. Never go Full Trouba TOG

It's so annoying. I get it, the Rogers Centre is packed now show the goddamn game. You're not alone. Me and a few others here have expressed the same complaint. Thankfully, Sportsnet won't be the ones filming the playoffs. I have no problem seeing the crowd. I don't really understand the complaint.... The problem is, they cut away form the game to have a POV of the cameraman walking down steps. Or to show us the back of someone's head. I feel like I'm watching a news broadcast. I don't mind when the camera films from a distance, and the people don't know they're being filmed, thus giving natural reactions. But having people acknowledge the camera just creates a feeling of artificiality, since people tend to perform for the camera when they know they're being filmed, like this douchebag: I've never seen any other sports broadcast does this. And there's a reason for that. It ruins the illusion that you're at the game. And it feels corny, since the cameraman is all but saying "Hey, check out the blonde's rack! Yeah, this guy's lovin' it! ;)". I can't shake the feeling they're more concerned with trying to create "entertainment", ignoring the fact fans are tuning in specifically for the game. I'd really like to know who is in charge of directing. There used to be a guy who wrote for the Star who would cover the media aspect, and give his opinions on it. I think this would have drove him up the wall. I know I can't stand it.

Don't blame it on the camera operators, it is the directer and switcher selecting and telling what camera to do what.

I have met Buck a few times before through work and he is a really nice guy, so down to earth to talk to. I know he makes Buck Blunders but he is loyal and a great guy.
