This organization needs to get over their fascination with Sanchez. They're probably trying to save face for telling everyone he was the "untouchable prospect" over Syndergaard, they need admit to themselves they made a mistake and trade him in the offseason. I hope to hell he's not back next year and the frontrunner for the 5th spot in the rotation.

The Mets were smart

I don't understand why Gibbons doesn't use Lowe, you f***ing traded for him so use him, it's like when I buy a shitload of apples and only eat 1 of the 8 and ask myself why?

Analogy needs improvement

Osuna

Lowe

Cecil

Hendriks

That is a shut down pen if used properly. If I was one of the vets I'd be pissed that the organization continues to give opportunities to Sanchez, when there are at least three guys who are indisputably more effective.

Hendriks is better than Osuna and is having a better season.

Hendriks

Osuna / Cecil

Lowe / Loup

Hawkins / Sanchez

I think you will see Hendriks over Osuna if he continues to give up the long ball and cant command his secondary pitches. That's the smart play.

Im not sure how but the Aussie is looking stronger as the season wears on now touching 98 MPH with nasty supporting stuff.

I think there's a danger in shaking things up too much this late in the season. We've seen it before when people change roles, it throws them off sometimes. I would use Lowe and Cecil in high leverage situations, keep Osuna as closer, drop Sanchez to mop up duty.

Osuna

Cecil/Lowe

Hendriks/Cecil

More than likely we will see Sanchez in the rotation next year which will end up a disaster.

I'm pretty sure they aren't going to switch closers in the last week of September. Regardless, we can all agree that Sanchez isn't even one of the 4 best relievers in the pen.

There's one guy who doesn't agree.

Anyway, Lowe > Hendriks.

Personally, I kinda like that Osuna is locked in at closer, it gives Gibbons free reign to use Lowe, Cecil and Hendriks whenever they're most needed from the 6th to 8th.

I haven't checked this, but off the top of my head, Sanchez might have the lowest K rate of any qualified RP in baseball. It's close, for sure.

5.73 K/9. Not even top 150 in the league for relievers.

ftfy.

There should be no roles. That is precisely the issue right now. f*** off with Sanchez in the 8th no matter what, even if 4 lefties are due up with Cecil warm.

Sanchez can't be trust with high leverage situations right now, that much is obvious. Osuna in the 9th and Lowe/Cecil in the 7th/8th.

Or ever

That's utopic. Bullpen roles are just part of the culture now. You can't start a revolution. Some simple flexibility would suffice.

I don't care about leaving Osuna as saves collector. Not every manager (I'd actually say most don't) have a strict 8th inning guy, 7th inning guy. That's all I want, if you have 4 lefties up, Cecil warm, don't put in Sanchez just because he's da eighth inning guy.

YES YES YES

Exactly

Yeah I agree with you there. Usually the teams have a defined "setup guy" and his role is a bit more fluid than "8th inning no matter what".

Lowe, Hendriks, Cecil should receive priority for high leverage situations. Sanchez and his squirrely ass face can f*** right off.

He was sweating bullets before he even threw a pitch last night, he looked rattled.

Well f*** do you know how much energy it takes to those big lanky legs going to run out from the bullpen.

Yeah, I don't usually put a lot of stock in body language and such, but he looked pretty nervous from the get-go.

Maybe it was actually a good thing Sanchez f***ed up last night so Gibby can realize he needs to switch roles around . I think from now on Lowe and Cecil will get the 8th inning depending on the matchup which IMO is the most ideal situation. Hendriks will see the 6th/7th inning when the starter doesn't go 7 or he will finish off the game with a 4-5 run lead.

Probably best to use Sanchez in 4+ run lead games with the majority of RHB coming up.

If I were Sanchez, I'd be nervous too. Guy can't even throw his fastball for strikes, it's not his fault Gibbons decides that he should be the set-up man. I don't hate Gibbons but it's pretty much unanimous among all types of fans that Sanchez shouldn't pitch in those situations right now. Much like how every type of fan realized JPA was a horrible player... it's just painfully obvious.

I think that's the general consensus. It could have cost the Jays a game but since it didn't, it might actually work out for the best by nailing the Sanchez=8th inning coffin.

This conversation would be way more heated if Gibbons didn't have such a short leash on him last night, which I am very thankful for. If anything we know his patience is pretty low with him now.

Yeah it's like Gibbons kind of knew he was making a mistake but did it anyways while also hedging a bit.
