BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Travis is totally done right? Would have been much easier to absorb if we could go Goins SS, Travis 2B, Pennington bench That becomes a bigger question now and nobody seems to know if Travis is done or not. Losing Travis AND Tulo....man that's a load of bad luck and WAR we wont have.

labadee Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Tulo being out 2-3 weeks is not good. Hopefully Edwin gets back soon. if he's only out 2-3 weeks, i'd be thrilled.
Nabru Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Why can't things go smoothly just once for this team? f*** is this frustrating. I would imagine Martin DH's today to try and compensate for the offence lost. Revere Donaldson Bautista Colabello Martin Goins Pennington Pillar Thole ? f***.

Things have gone very smooth for this team this year.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 virtually any other CF'er and there is no collision. pillar is a reckless hothead. Boxy and Ang agree. Well that settles it then..
nextyear Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 It isn't what anyone had hoped for, but if Tulowitzki is lost then Kawasaki will need to be on the 25 man playoff roster. Defensively, Goins at SS and Pennington at 2B is probably just as good as Tulowitzki at SS and Goins at 2B. Pennington showed yesterday that he is good defensively and can contribute offensively. Kawasaki is also good defensively as a backup, and he can draw walks and get a bunt down.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Who wants to bet that Pennington steps it up now?
nextyear Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Who wants to bet that Pennington steps it up now? I feel confident that he will. Goins looks tired though and he isn't used to playing so much at a MLB level, so I think Pennington/Kawasaki should be played more to get Kawasaki tuned up to MLB levels and to rest Goins.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 @ShiDavidi: #BlueJays acquire INF Darwin Barney from #Dodgers for cash or PTBNL. In uniform today. Won't be eligible for playoffs. So I guess Tulo is done.

I had never heard of Barney before, but his defensive stats are good - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=2430&position=2B Unless they hope to have Tulowitzki back for the playoffs, what would be the point of playing Darwin Barney since he won't be eligible for the playoffs? Would they play Barney over Kawasaki, when Kawasaki is eligible for the playoffs?
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Barney is a great defender, former gold glover

What's wrong with having a stockpile of defensive wizards, regardless of how long they'll be here?

Kawasaki is never a better option than Goins. Goins has been waiting to be put in this position his whole life and you think he's tired? C'mon bro..
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Goins and Pennington every day
EMK19 Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Reminds me of the Dave Parker move in 1991, an insurance for the stretch drive even if not available for playoffs. We also can't forget the fact that Pennington is also supposed to be our backup at third in case god forbid JD can't play for whatever reason (Since they'd probably be uneasy using Bautista or EE at 3rd at this point in the yr, as they haven't seen time there all season), I'm sure that was also considered from the depth perspective.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Just saw the post game Pillar interview. He literally broke Tulo's shoulder blade with his chin. Incredible.

The immediate goal is to win today's game. The mid-range goal is to win the division. The long term goal is to win the World Series. Mr. Rubble can help with the first two... And as such, aid in the third. Depth and a strong defensive presence can only help.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Aside from Travis, this team has been pretty damn healthy in 2015. It was just a matter of time. Besides, all teams need to deal with injuries. They'll deal with it and win anyway... Cause we're the mother fudging Blue Jays!!

Barney is hardly worthy of a press conference and it was announced during the second game last night that Tulo would address the media today.
