93 Jays Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Willie Upshaw was my favorite player in the days going to watch games at Exhibition place. Also knew Manny Lee and got to hit off of Luis Aquino when I was 17 years old. First and last time I ever wanted to see what 90MPH looked like.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I only started watching the Jays last year after the Raptors got eliminated from the playoffs. Needed something to satisfy my Toronto sports craving. Used to be one of those "baseball is boring" guys, but decided to give it a shot. Took a little time and research for me to really get into it, but this board has helped a lot with understanding advanced stats, what to look for while watching a game, and just made it a more enjoyable experience. Yeah... a lot less exciting than most of your stories but there it is. It's good man. I hope that more people discover that they actually enjoy baseball and stick with it.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I remember watching the world series games in '92. I was only 7 at the time, and not a huge fan, but man was it exciting. I remember the Alomar home run and him becoming my favorite player. I didn't grow up with any family who like baseball. I didn't watch many regular season games even in the good years and mostly lost interest. Then a buddy of mine got me hooked on MLB MVP 05 for play station. That game was pretty much perfect. It sort of kindled my (real) love for baseball. I found my way onto the Bluejays.com forum, got schooled by Grant of all people for having a man-crush on Juan Pierre when he was a FA (he was good in the game ). Just started learning things about the game (and its more advanced metrics) on the forum and that made me want to learn and watch more (and more and more and more). Best thing about baseball is you can enjoy it with a casual knowledge, wiht a practical knowledge, or by diving into advanced stats.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 damn this thread makes me feel old Tell me about it. Im shocked that so many posters have never been a part of what we saw from 85-93 with this team. Or the Expos big years. Its a pleasant surprise and Im glad they have the passion for baseball/Jays. Lets hope they get to enjoy some of what we did in those years.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I haven't played a baseball video game since MVP 05, which was just great. I think I played one or two matches of the Show or 2K once, but that's it. Maybe I'll pick up the most recent Show when this season ends. Or whatever version is the most up to date for the PS3.
Governator Community Moderator Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 No one could ever beat me in RBI baseball.
dbyrks Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 RBI baseball was the best! I have been a fan since 90 or 91, when my tee-ball team was the blue jays. Of course, being in Canada I would have liked them anyway probably, but I know that's what started it. I listened to the 92 series win on the radio on the way home from my brother's hockey game and vividly remember Carter's homerun in 93. I think I was too young to appreciate it at the time but am thankful my parents allowed me to watch so much of it back then.

Sorrow Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Jays fan since about 2001, I have vague memories of the 93 series but I was 5 years old and of course didn't have much of an attention span. My favourite team is still the Pirates and it has been since the 90s, I'm also a big Astros fan and have been since the late 90s as well.
wiredin Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 1996 when I saw my first game, was a baseball fan since 1991 when my mom had season tickets for the AAA Trappers in Edmonton. We went to nearly every game including double headers during school hours (yes, I remember being pulled out of grade 7 to go down to the ball park and watch the Trappers). Then in 1996 we went to Toronto and Montreal just her and I and we took in a Jays game and an Expos game. I much preferred the Jays and found it a lot more exciting. We went to three more Jays games before I got into high-school and became...well an idiot teenager. Four years ago I started to get back into it casually and got deeper and deeper every year. Last year I watched 40% of the games, this year I think I'm around 75% of the games, and even got my wife and 2 year old son hooked too! The question now is... who do I put on my blank jersey I bought last year... Can't choose Donaldson because the wife just got it. But for me its a toss between Dickey, Price, Stroman, Osuna, Martin, Tulo, or Pillar... choices choices.
