SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 How long have you been a Jays fan? Are you a newbie getting a exciting taste of meaningful September ball for the first time, or a jaded, old veteran who has seen many highs and more lows over the years? I suspect many of you weren't around or interested in ball when the Jays had their halcyon years, from 1985-1994 when they were more solid than not, but I thought this would be a neat way to determine the fan demographics of our board. For me, I'm a grizzled, old fan. I started really loving the Jays in 1984 (I was in grade 7) when they had such an exciting, young team...led by my favourites Moseby, Barfield and Bell. I am still a huge fan of those guys. Anyway, enough about me...
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Earliest memory is Shawn Green, so 1995?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I was a fan when I was very little, Paul Molitor and Pat Borders were my favourite players but I didn't start really getting into baseball until around 2006.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Earliest memory is Shawn Green, so 1995? I was a huge Green fan, too. One of the more underrated players to ever don a Jays uni.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 2004 and my favorite player was Justin Miller for some reason.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Legit fan during the 2003 season. Carlos Delgado made me a fan for life

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Vaguely rememer the Carter home run as an 8 year old; hardcore fan since about 2004.
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Since the 2005 off-season. I started rooting for the Blue Jays after about a year of mourning the loss of the Expos.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Since Doug Ault hit 2 home runs (that's day 1 for you youngin's - it was in the snow at Ex Stadium)
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Speaking of Shawn Green, can we talk about how much fun Raul Mondesi was. A shell of himself when he came here but he was entertaining as hell.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Been a fan since 90ish even though I was only 4 and not even from Canada. Can remember staying up to watch the World Series wins both times.
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Typical 92 & 93 here. I was about 10 years old, grew up playing baseball. I have a hilarious school class photo of everyone dressed up and I'm decked out in a full Blue Jays uniform with my Carter jersey on.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I always watched the Jays growing up but I really got into them in 2010-2011 when Jose Bautista had those monster seasons.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 In the same boat as Dinger i was 7 for the Carter homerun and remember my dad and all his friends going nuts..... I have been since late 90's early 2000 as i was a huge Jose Cruz Jr. Fan
Cam Maxwell Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I started watching the Blue Jays when Manny Lee and Damaso Garcia were on the team. Dave Stieb was a phenomenal pitcher, and of course the BBB outfield led the way. I was watching the World Series wins on TV in Calgary and, after each win, we went out and partied. It was awesome because all the cars in YYC were honking their horns with people yelling out their car windows. Those WS wins were totally felt all around Canada.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Was at the opener in 1977, and have only missed 12 openers in total (13 if you count the Dome Opener), so the obvious answer is...I'm not.

Its interesting when players like Morneau and others from that era are interviewed they credit the great Jays teams from 85 ish on helping to inspire them to want to play baseball. It created a groundswell across Canada.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Born in 92 but started watching the games in '99 with my dad. Signed up for ball the very next year. When I got a little older and this team was garbage 04-08 I started following the angels a lot because I loved Vladdy. Watched them religiously for a few years while still following the jays until I just stopped caring about a west coast team
RidethePine Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I think it was back in 2003 so i was 9 at the time, back when Roy Halladay was taking his first Cy Young, we had the O-Dog, and the Cat and of course the 5th deck menace Josh Phelps.
Mac Outlaw Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I remember listening to ballgames on CJCL 1430 when they carried the games. They were hardly ever on TV then, maybe only on the weekend on CTV. The year was 1983 and I was five years old. The team was good every single year until I got into high school. I had no idea what a bad Toronto Blue Jay baseball team looked like. Then Gillick left and it all went to hell.
labadee Verified Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 1997ish? Jose Cruz junior was my favourite player on the jays. Also was fond of Tony Batista and his funky stance
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Casual fan while I was really young. Vernon Wells was my favorite player growing up. Started really paying attention and getting serious about baseball in like 2010. This is like my 6th season that I've followed really closely.
